JANUARY
We brought in the new year in Mazatlan Mexico very quietly, just the two of us at Marina El Cid.
Lots of palapa time as the weather was mainly sunny and hot without much humidity although windy at times.
We tried several new restaurants El Seis for breakfast and didn't like it other than their coffee.
We did find, by accident, a family owned tiny breakfast spot that we fell in love with, Portal de San Juan.
Had a good English breakfast at Via Condotti, burgers at Mary's, tried Costa Marinara on the beach, had several (a lot) of lunches poolside at Torres, went to dinner with Bill and Carol at Casa Canobbio, drinks at the Freeman before seeing Help a Beatles tribute band at the theatre. We were excited that the Indian restaurant had reopened, but were really disappointed with our meal.
Had beers at a beach palapa (new) below the Malecon, a hotel on the Malecon.
Tried mescal at Onilikan on Gaviotas.
Bought steaks at the market and then discovered that the steaks from the butcher at Soriana's at the best!
Spent a morning at El Quelite with Bill and Carol. Click here for Carol's blog.
We wandered around various parts of town, went to the Art Museum, Tippy Toes, the Aquarium and saw the baseball stadium, Gaviotas, walked (street) to Cerritos, along the Malecon where we discovered the brand new mural.
We forgot about Art Walk in January and didn't go in February, so it is a must for March. Well, that didn't happen. Art Walk should have been March 1 but since that was in the middle of Carnaval it was moved to March 8, the day we flew home.

We moved to Building C, a much nicer building in our opinion.
FEBRUARY
The month started with Super Bowl Sunday. YAWN!!!
We tried a new breakfast/lunch spot, La Antigua and it was fantastic.
Did some cosmetic maintenance with haircuts and pedicures.
Carnaval preparations were in full swing and we tracked them all down.
This one was at Plaza Machado.

Marion Lorraine Claus Hearns March 13 1924 March 1 2019 (age 94)
Passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, March 1, 2019 at the Trenton Memorial Hospital. Loving wife of the late Eldon Hearns. Daughter of the late Stafford and Ada Claus. Loving mom of Larry, Marilyn Brant (the late Jack), Garnet (Pat), Karen Vintinner (Blair) and Debera Howard (Paul). Predeceased by her daughter Janice Gordon (Reg) and her babies Robin Elizabeth and Ronald John. Cherished grandmother to all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Predeceased by her sibling Leroy, Ivan, Donald, Grace, Shirley, Vernon, Stafford and Mitchell. Marion will always be remembered by her many nieces and nephews. Family and Friends will be received at McGlade Funeral Home on Monday, March 4, 2019 between the hours of 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in Christ Church, TMT on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Deseronto Cemetery. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to All Saints Church or the Deseronto Library in memory of Marion.
Febrero loco, Marzo un poco. Crazy weather in February and a little bit in March.
We happened upon the Carnaval floats. What a riot of colour!!
We had our last outing with Bill and Carol, it was a rough winter for them, between the construction taking place behind them and Bill's surgery we haven't seen as much of them as we usually do.
Click here to read about the construction.
A little blurry, in the back of Willie.
The rest of the week was taken up by manicures, pedicures, hair cuts and shopping for a couple of souvenirs for friends.
King David picked us up for our ride to the airport and we were on the 11 AM flight to Mexico City where we had a layover of about three hours which we spent in American Express lounge.
We landed in Toronto and were through customs and had our luggage within 45 minutes, a far cry from last November. Into a limo and home sweet home.
The first week home was just spent getting back into our routine and cooking some of our favourite meals we had missed. Espresso
I had an email request, which I granted, to use a photo of ours in an article.
I had bought tickets online for the Impressionism exhibit at the AGO for March 15, not realizing it was spring break!
We also stopped into the Mickalene Thomas exhibit as it was closing soon. We had first seen her work in Boca Raton FL a couple of years ago so I was excited to see more of her pieces.
Week 3 of March, Muy Buena Pizza, our second week home saw a mixed bag of weather. We had some snow, then the first day of spring was magnificent that begged for an outing after John finally had his first pizza of 2019.
We wanted to find a new mural done by the Spanish muralist, Okuda.
We found a new gluten-free bakery option, Dimpflmeir's and it's close to home.
Such a gorgeous day, we stopped into Allan Gardens for a gander at their spring display.
A new, to us, Martindale mural, considered to be the tallest mural in the world. I'm not sure about that.
We finished the week on a really cold night at the Princess of Wales seeing Sting in his own play, The Last Ship, which we both really enjoyed.
The last week of March, Warm and Toasty, saw me do some shopping with K and got some tops and a denim jacket.
It was also John's birthday week, so mussels at the Museum Tavern were on order before going to the ROM to see Treasures of a Desert Kingdom.
Friday we had breakfast out and then shopped for him, shoes and a denim jacket as well.
John's (and mine) birthday meals before the actual day.
Mug Shot and we woke to snow on the ground for John's birthday. We didn't go anywhere exciting this week but did upgrade our phones and saw some interesting movies.
We also spent a lot of time planning our May vacation.
And in preparation for our trip I went back and revisited
Our first trip to Paris in 1992.
Our first trip to Rome in 2004.
Our first trip to Florence in 2004.
Butter Me Up a quiet week that also had some snow.
New Treats and we went to see Hotel Mumbai. Raptor fever took over the city.
The weather finally started to warm up.
It's Coffee Time
We had advance tickets to the new permanent Kusama Infinity Room.
Then we found the laneway murals on Dundas West.
I went to the Bata Shoe Museum.
We spent the last few days of April in Paris!
Apr 27 - 28 Paris
Apr 29
Apr 30 and we went to see Atelier des Lumieres, a highlight of our trip for me.
We fell in love with macarons!!
This was our plan for the next month. Click here for our detailed plan.
And we both agreed it was one of our really great trips!!

MAY
Cafe en Paris is a recap of Apr 27 - 30 on our own in Paris and then May 1 to May 3.
May 1 was technically the start of our Gate 1 14 Day Classic France, but it is actually a travel day so we have the day to ourselves. It was also a large national holiday so many things were closed.
May 2 the tour starts in the evening with a welcome drink and a Seine river cruise.
May 3 was a quick city tour, we'd already covered most of this on foot and the rest of the day on our own.
Paris May 1-3
Check out some of the many restaurants we passed and we developed an addiction to macarons!
And a few churches!
May 4 we left Paris for Dijon!
Some highlights from this tour:
Eperney champagne tour
Lyon lunch at Bar y Vin
Lyon lunch at Bar y Vin
DIJON
John wrote a detailed post on our Champagne tour.
The weather was absolutely miserable when we got to Dijon. I passed on the walking tour but John braved the weather and brought back macarons.
An early start and cold as we headed to Beaune for a wine tour.
Onto to Lyon for the night, but first a city tour of Lyon.
Lyon to French Riviera
JUNE
Home Cooking we started the week in Barcelona and ended in Toronto. Other than getting settled and enjoying cooking at home, not much happened. The city was in the middle of Raptor fever.
Market Day and summer has appeared as we get into the swing of home. Raptor fever continues.
I went to an exhibit at the Market Gallery, St. Lawrence Market on Toronto women artists and rode a post on them.

I found a place that I thought could introduce John to sushi (he's tried in the past and didn't care for it) August 8 in Chinatown. We both fell in love with it. This is a composite of several meals over the summer.
JULY
There was a Blue Squares (#Blue #JulySquares) daily challenge in July and a Paris in July weekly challenge.

AUGUST
We started the month
Andrew in Australia of High Riser blog gave me a nice shout out after his trip to Great Britain and Ireland.
I think Jackie in Toronto has detailed and well researched posts on everything we saw in Great Britain.August brings the annual Brain project out. Was not well organized this year. They moved them around, and their map was not accurate. I gave up.
A trip to the ROM for a scary treat.
I took a trip to the Market Gallery at the St. Lawrence Market to see Toronto Brews.
International Flavours took us to the Taste of India and the Indonesian Festival. From there we went to Ossington for some new murals and a Mexican beer.

On College St. after a tasty lunch in The Dirty Bird we went wandering.
We've seen a lot of murals, but these were all in one lane! Little did we know that we would find even bigger lanes of murals in October!
More info on these murals.
Part 1 Monday Mural

A new mural was unveiled on Charles St. off Yonge.

And the Poop Cafe was quite a hit although it threw John.
We had a ball at the Museum of Illusions with Karen and Blair.
Followed by lunch at Barcelona Tavern in Liberty Village, a visit to the MZTV Museum and a walk around.
OCTOBER
October was 31 days of Squared Lines with Becky.
October's signs 2.
I had a personal message from Jayne at Sticky Mud and Belly Laughs asking if she could use some of my Toronto photos for a travel ad she was writing. Of course I said yes.
There are so many things that we would like to see and experience in Canada.
Toronto would be my first port of call because I would have to pop in and see my friend Jackie and her husband John whilst there!
Cafe del Teatre John saw his grandson play hockey in St. Catherine's.
We spend time hunting murals on Dundas West and found a great new brunch spot, Good Fork.

These were in Art Eggleton Lane or better known as Butterfly Lane.
And there were doors into the bargain.
And then more murals in Alan Powell Lane.
NOVEMBER
Morning Coffee was a quiet week heading into November. Getting cozy and changing things around at home.
Bought a new chair and picked up the black and white mug on the Danforth.
New houseplants from Ikea. This is likely not their final spot as I may moved them around.
New houseplants from Ikea. This is likely not their final spot as I may moved them around.
Hot Chocolate brought cold and snow. Very unseasonable.
Went to an exhibit at the Gardiner Museum, Savour.
We had lunch with Mary on the Danforth who has a splint on her leg from face planting herself in front of Dollarama due to uneven pavement. She broke her knee cap. The restaurant, Bar Hop was not impressive.
Still puttering changing things around the house. Julie came for dinner.

Christmas Market City Hall Toronto 2019
Set Menu and we headed to Montreal for the weekend. We cooked our best prime rib ever!
Some Holiday Cheer and we headed to the ROM to see the Bloodsuckers!
My BFF and I enjoyed the Christmas display at Allan Gardens.
It might have been warm and cosy in the greenhouses it was a very cold evening when John and I headed to the Christmas Fair at City Hall!
But mulled wine and fires kept us warm.
Christmas Fare took us into the heart of the holidays and we spent a weekend at my cousin's.
Then lunch out at O and B's with friends.
We celebrated quietly on our own and enjoyed chillaxing at home with movies and books.
Dinner Specials took us into 2020.
New Year's Eve!
