Butter Me Up

Saturday

Six Word Saturday St. Andrews NB

John has been wanting bagels, but not the drive to his favourite place. So we found an easy recipe at Gluten Free on a Shoestring. I substituted the Greek yogurt with sour cream, because I had some, skipped the egg white and these were absolutely delicious. While they do not have the texture of a bagel, they are delicious with anything. I could see using them for eggs Benedict very easily.

John was on dinner duty and did wings and fries, delicious!

We watched an interesting documentary The Inventor.

With a new invention that promised to revolutionize blood testing, Elizabeth Holmes became the world's youngest self-made billionaire, heralded as the next Steve Jobs. Then, just two years later, her multibillion-dollar company was dissolved.

Since I didn't have enough sour cream to make more of yesterday's bagels, I did have a lot of cream cheese and found this biscuit recipe. Again, super easy and very tasty.

Headed out to get my hair cut and it felt like spring!

Brookfield Place always has interesting displays. This time it was Anthropocene, which we had seen at the ROM last October.

It comes to life with the AVARA app, which I didn't download at the time but have now and will go back to check it out.

The immersive power of Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality can offer users the sensory experience of visiting the most extraordinary moments in time and remarkable places on the planet, far too often experienced by only a very few. At AVARA we are creating technology and AR/VR experiences that transport people to the most unique places, moments, and interactions around the world far beyond their imagination.

Even the horses were out for a walk.

I picked up some rainbow trout, which I have not cooked before. I did it in the oven, and it was good. But next time I will probably do in a pan so I can get crispy skin!

Good thing I took a photo before I cooked it as I forgot after.

We stocked up at the Bulk Barn and Lanzarotta's for fruits and vegetables.

Love this display of sprinkles at the Bulk Barn.

I made a triple batch of the bagels I had made on Saturday from Gluten Free on a Shoestring. I found they took a lot more flour than when I made them with the sour cream.

Dinner was easy, roast chicken thighs with roasted potatoes, Brussels sprouts and carrots.

Wednesday

Turned out to be another lazy day at home. I had planned on going out but never got around to it!

John took our taxes in to be done.

After helping out at the Coffee Club for a friend I headed downtown to meet my BFF. What a cold, miserable day!
We agreed to stay indoors, never a problem in Toronto and headed for some shopping, really just browsing, since neither of us really bought anything.

Then we sat and had a long chatty lunch watching the snow and hail blow around.

I had the same meal that I had last week with my cousin but at least I took a photo this time.

California Bowl - sushi rice avocados cucumbers crab meat (real or imitation either works) carrots nori sesame seeds siracha mayo and topped with tobiko.

Dinner - burgers.

Friday

We made a quick trip to the accountant to pick up our taxes. Done and dusted for another year.

For lunch we had Buffalo cauliflower poppers with celery sticks.

I finalized the last bookings for our trip in May.

Dinner - ham steak, mashed potatoes, turnip and carrots.

  3. I'd rather plan a trip than read too! That Anthropocene exhibit looks awesome. I have to tell my niece about the bagel recipe so she can make it for her dad (my brother), who's always looking for good GF breads.

  6. How sad about Elizabeth Holmes - and actually criminal! Wow, those walls of Avara - impressive! It's all about the experience, eh? Rainbow trout - my son in law is an avid fisherman and he let us taste some he caught one time - love the soft taste of it! That Californnia bowl looks delicious - what goes into it? You're going all the way - making your own bagels! Many thanks linking showing All Seasons your experiences. Have fun exploring some more this week:):)
