February 2014 - Mazatlan Mexico
I must wax poetic about this restaurant - it is stunning in every way, exceptional, amazing, gorgeous, outstanding and delicious!!
From the outside this looks like a solid private grey corner home, not overly imposing. But step inside and one is blown away.
Most of the home is no longer functional, the courtyard has been renovated and the restaurant has been incorporated into the property. The huge courtyard leading to the restaurant has.trees growing throughout and roots creep down the plastered walls, exposed brick contrasts with modern glass roof-tops, and old vigas (beams) remain as structural staples of construction.
We were seated in the courtyard and this was our view.
You can just get a glimpse of the bar hidden by these massive old trees.
El Presidio is located in Casa Garcia, a home owned by Diego Bercerra's family for hundreds of years. The restaurant is beautifully decorated in a mixture of old and new with antiques, a solarium, granite top tables, and chandeliers.
You feel like you have stepped back in time as meals are delivered in these heated baskets. Fresh plates and cutlery accompany each order.
The bread was served with a spicy mayonnaise as described by our server.
The wait staff provided excellent service and were extremely professional. They pull the chairs out for the ladies and are attentive throughout your dining experience.

Yes, I know, they are just hamming it up for us.
You can see the end of the covered bar in the background.
John proclaimed this as the best pork shank in Mazatlan, and he is an expert having tried it at Topolo's and at Pedro y Lola's.
Duck burritos are on the appetizer side of the menu which I chose as my main course. We both proclaimed these as delicious!!
