Found on a wander along Bloor St. West.
St. John’s was established in 1909 and for decades its membership was largely Caucasian of German ancestry. But in the late 1980s and early ‘90s, pastor Michael Drews encouraged Lutherans who had recently immigrated to Canada to join the congregation. The church began to conduct services in English, Tamil and Tigrinya. Over the past two decades, St. John’s has sponsored more than 400 refugees from around the world.

...a church in action.
ReplyDeleteNice! This is the first time I've heard of a church offering services in Tigrinya. I once had a foster child from Eritrea who spoke Tigrinya, but also English which she had learned from television.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful church!
ReplyDeleteA church should be used by all, it is a house of God
