Maud Kathleen Lewis, born March 7th 1901, was a Canadian folk artist from Nova Scotia. Living in poverty with her husband in a small house in Marshalltown, Nova Scotia, most of her life, she achieved national recognition in 1964 and 1965.
In 2017 Mongrel Media released her life story as a film called "Maudie" staring Academy Award nominees #SallyHawkins and @EthanHawke.
Maud Lewis overcame the physical challenge of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis to become one of Canada’s premier folk artists.
The original tiny house that Lewis shared with her husband, Everett, has been restored and is housed at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia in Halifax.
She died on July 30th 1970 in Digby Nova Scotia.

Maud Lewis 1964

Maud Kathleen Lewis (née Dowley; March 7, 1903 – July 30, 1970) was a Canadian folk artist from Nova Scotia. Lewis lived most of her life in poverty in a small house in Marshalltown, Nova Scotia, achieving national recognition in 1964 and 1965. She is best known for her cheerful paintings of landscapes, animals, and flowers, which offer a nostalgic and optimistic vision of her native province. Several books, plays and films have since been produced about her. Lewis remains one of Canada's most celebrated folk artists; her works and the restored Maud Lewis House are displayed in the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia.

Veterans Memorial Garden Brings Together Great War, WWII Korea and Afghanistan Memorials.

Unveiled in 2017 this monument commemorates members of the Canadian Armed Forces who served in Afghanistan. It was created by Sudbury artist Tyler Fauvelle.

He specializes in creating bronze statues that pay tribute to Canada's military history.

A field of poppies graces the back wall and serves as the perfect backdrop to Veterans' Memorial Garden across the tracks.
The approximately 2,500-square-foot mural is the creation of London-based artist Andrew Lewis.
