In honour of CANADA DAY I plan to post a daily image of Canada and a link to a random Canadian location we have visited.
Northwest Territories
The Northwest Territories (NWT) is a vast, sparsely populated territory in Northern Canada, spanning over 1.1 million square kilometers. Known for its dramatic landscapes ranging from boreal forests to Arctic tundra, it is home to roughly 46,000 residents.
Landscape: The territory is defined by massive waterways, including the Mackenzie River (Canada’s longest river) and deep inland "seas" like Great Bear Lake and Great Slave Lake (the deepest lake in North America). The tree line bisects the region, transitioning from lush forests in the south to a rocky, icy Arctic tundra in the north.
Climate: The NWT experiences an extreme subarctic to Arctic climate. Winters are bitterly cold, often dipping below -40°C, with only a few hours of daylight. Summers bring 24-hour daylight in the north and mild, long days, making it ideal for outdoor activities.
