Singapore Day 5

Singapore - February 2015

Day 5 - February 4
Morning on our own.

We had breakfast, got packed and were out by 10 AM. I wanted to visit the church CHIJME, more on this in a later post.

Then we wanted to pick up a couple of items at the market.

We had seen a place advertising $6 hair cuts last night so we sought it out.

Pick up 1:30 PM return 5PM
This afternoon, soak in the rich cultural heritage of the Malays at the Malay Ethnic Area. We did this last and there wasn't much to soak in. See below.

Your guide will recount stories of collective spirits that rose through the darkest times of World War II as you proceed with your tour of Changi Chapel and Museum.
We were picked up on time but again it was 2:30 before the tour started.
We had Joyce, the same guide as last night. This portion of the tour was fascinating and interesting.

Taking a drive through the rustic and laid-back Changi Village gives you a chance to see the relaxing side of Singapore and provides a contrast to your final stop at Tampines New Town, a typical heartland township of present day Singapore. Not sure why you would include this in the tour. It was meant to show how ordinary people live, but it comprised of a 5 minute walk around the local market.

Next we were taken to the Malay Centre, in other words, we were taken to the Mosque, but because we did it at the end of the tour, rather than as advertised, prayers were in session, we couldn't enter. We left the guide and enjoyed the area on our own.

This is the Arabic part of town, lots of fabric shops on Arab St. but there are many fun bars and shops.

We then walked to meet Suzanne at 18 Raffles Quay. Quite a feat in the heat. This is a huge food court near Suzanne and Sheryl's office. What an array of selections.

We are here because they close the street off and set up tables. Satay is served.

After dinner we took a cab to Orchard Rdnear where Suzanne lives, as she had a conference call at 10PM with the Toronto office.

The malls were amazing.
