Lane names are my new obsession as I wander the city.
Laneways, also known as alleys, are narrow streets that add to the diversity of the overall public space network, supporting the fine grain character of a city. ... Laneways can work as a network for pedestrians to navigate the city and build an overall identity for the city center.
The Toronto Street Post Office, also known as Toronto's Seventh Post Office, is a heritage building.
It served as a post office until 1872 and as a government office building until 1937. It was then used by the Bank of Canada until 1959, when it became the head office of E. P. Taylor's Argus Corporation, which was subsequently controlled by Conrad Black. It was here that Conrad Black was taped removing boxes of documents from the office.
Al Green Lane Davisville
Memory Lane East end
Bistro Lane Yonge and Wellesley
Galipo Brothers Lane College St.
Biscuit, Reverend Porter, Chechalk Downtown Yonge
Ice Cream Lane Danforth Ave.
Ching, Ditty, Leader Lanes Downtown
...we have some post offices in this classic style here too! It once was important to build classy building, how that has changed. Thanks Jackie for coming to the party, take care!

What a remarkable building, Jackie. I love how you captured the laneway sign, too. In the states, at least in Kansas, every street begins in the 100 block. I notice that is not the case everywhere else.
ReplyDeleteNice architectural building and beautiful door too.
ReplyDeleteOh this is sooo beautiful Jackie! I am a big fan of traditional mail and I do send a lot of mail weekly to friends abroad since the pandemic. I'll add this to my list when I visit Toronto someday :)
ReplyDeleteIt is always interesting when such old beauties get squeezed in between modern buildings. It is a gorgeous vintage post office.
