October 2012 - Basel Switzerland

The Basel Museum had an exhibition on the history of napkin folding.

The custom of artfully folding tablecloths and napkins originated in Europe at the start of the 16th century. Early records of the practice stem from Northern Italy, probably from Florence. The artfully folded garments of the Renaissance served as an inspiration.
