Juarez

February 2019 - Mazatlan Mexico

We've heard about the massive Juarez Flea Market or tianguis held on Sundays.
I looked up the directions by bus but decided to take a cab there and ended up in a pulmonia back.

These directions were more convoluted than they needed. It will be the bus next time!

Suffice to say that you can find almost anything here! Ask John, he bought three pairs of shorts for $500 pesos.
The streets are filled with items for sale, from shampoo to brooms to washing machines! There is underwear, socks, jeans, shirts, perfume, CDs, hammers, batteries, anything! And the food!

Need a haircut? Not a problem.

Lost the remote again? Not a problem.

Tshirt says "show your charme".

We venture out of the flea market and wander the busy streets around the municipal market that is open everyday.

Looking back at the flea market.

Finally found one of the landmarks mentioned in the directions. The head of Benito Juarez.
Benito Pablo Juárez García was a Mexican lawyer and president of Mexico, of Zapotec origin from Oaxaca. He was of poor, rural, indigenous origins, but he became a well-educated, urban professional and politician, who married a socially prominent woman of Oaxaca City, Margarita Maza.

And another landmark, the tortilla maker.

After visiting the church (click here for photos) we got a pulmonia.

Quick video.

Some photos snapped as we drove.

I saw at least one other sculpture like these that I missed, John captured these.

We think we'll take the bus back one day to wander some more.
