Semana Trece or la Ultima Semana

March 2016 - Puerto Vallarta to LA to Toronto

Can you believe this is week 13 our last week in Mexico! We've been here for three months!! And it's been a blast.

THURSDAY

The highlight of our day was meeting up with an old friend and her sister at the Marina for dinner.
Mary was staying at Vallarta Torre and I posted photos of our trip with them in 1993 when they bought their timeshare.

Everyone enjoyed our dinner at Porto Bello we had eaten here before.
The best eggplant parmesan ever!

John had the chicken parmesan again.

Barb and Mary's white wine accompanied by fish and sea bass. Desserts all around.

FRIDAY

We went to Taco Tango for our farewell meal and our server  gave us complimentary shots of rompope, Mexican eggnog. Since we have been here at least seven times I have posted numerous photos of our food!!
Photo from Tequila in January.

SATURDAY

We headed downtown for dinner at El Torito, our second visit.

John busy texting Blair.

Trying to entice us in but we have ribs on our brains.

SUNDAY

Lazy day lolling around. And I finally finished our 2015 Recap!!!

MONDAY

Today we headed downtown to walk and have lunch at Los Muertos Brewery. We had been there before.
Click here for a view of their beer posters.

Yikes looks like an accident about to happen!

TUESDAY
Our last full day had some necessary chores such as packing. Some clothes were discarded.
The plan was some pool time but it was a (rare) cloudy day with the humidity at 71%.

We had our farewell dinner at Porto Bello our third time here. But it is time to get outta Dodge, spring break has sprung and there are noisy hordes of students invading the place.

See above for dinner photos!!!

WEDNESDAY

Definitely bittersweet to be leaving Mexico, but we've been in Puerto Vallarta for long enough. I'm glad we took a trip back here after 22 years but don't imagine we will return, but never say never.
Both of us are looking forward to getting home.

We have a 2PM flight on Alaska Airlines to Los Angeles where we stay overnight at the Hilton.

We get a cab to the airport 50 pesos, seriously! Checked in and went for lunch at Wings, I had a great club sandwich and John had a steak onions green peppers in a tortilla.

The airport is very different from the last time in 1994! These murals were great.

Some photos walking to our gate.

Farewell Mexico!

We had aisle seats but I had no one else in my row so John came back and joined me. Flight started off quite bumpy but the Alaska Air crew are delightful.

I was in the washroom when he announced and if you look out on the left (we were on the left) you can see the Welcome To the US sign. I chuckled and when I came back John admitted he had looked.

Flying into LA. Taken with my Samsung tablet.

Easy comfortable flight and customs was very easy in LA. We simply scanned our passports and we showed the slip of paper to an agent and we were done. Luggage picked up and we are aboard the hotel shuttle, traffic was heavy around the airport. Checked in, walked over to the Sheraton hoping to have Italian but the restaurant was now a "chophouse" and nothing appealed. So we ended up at the sports bar in the Marriott and both had Philly cheesesteaks.

Thursday - St Patrick's Day Los Angeles CA

We caught the 9AM shuttle and it was packed. Again check in was easy and as Nexus users are TSA pre-screened so security was easy too.
We headed to  Barney's Beanery for coffee and breakfast. Food was good, service was mediocre.

Again our AC flight, booked through Cheapo air, was not full. So we both had empty seats beside us.

Cleared customs using Nexus and were done in no time. Waiting for luggage, however, took an hour.
Long line for a limo but it moved quickly and we were in our building by 9PM so I made a dash to our convenience store for the morning essentials and then we ordered dinner in.

Was a great winter!!! TORONTO!

  4. Alaska Airloines in Mexico - how exotic. 3 months is a long time to be away from home. Cheers from Carole's Chatter!

    1. Alaska Airlines are one of the most economical airlines all down the Pacific coast and provide impressive service.

  5. This is my first visit to your blog and I'm so glad I discovered it (via BethFish Reads).

You did what my husband and I dream of doing: spending three months in a foreign country (for me it is France or Italy) and truly live like the natives. I will go back and re-read your previous posts.

    Welcome home :)
