Sepia Saturday

Sepia Saturday

I'm posting at Sepia Saturday today.
This week's challenge is:
165 23 February 2013 : The photograph is called Group Portrait Of An Unknown Family. We all have some unknowns in our collections and this is their special week.

I know that the man on the right (in lighter gray suit) is my paternal grandfather Thomas. I don't know who is standing beside him, but I am guessing it might be his brother as there is a strong resemblance to my Uncle Tommy named after his father, my grandfather.
I wish I knew where this was taken in Dublin.

Both my grandfathers were named Thomas.
I will have to take the time to restore this photo some day.

Here is my Uncle Tommy as a boy he is on the left. I don't know who is on the right so two photos with unknowns!.

  1. They are lovely, and such a nice record of your family to keep. I have a photo of my grandmother taken at the end of the 19th century, and I really treasure it. I've been taking pix of an artwork at a nature reserve http://goo.gl/7FE3e

  2. The man on the left in the first photo looks like he's talking to the photographer - maybe offering encouragement or telling them to hurry up!

  3. Your paternal grandfather is a broad shouldered guy.

  4. It looks as though you have saved these photos just in time. I am sure there are lots of clues there about locations and dates waiting to be discovered.

  6. Too bad the first photo has so many creases. It looks like it would be very hard to restore.

  7. I don't have the skills for restoration. Good luck!

  8. Restoration away- good luck, they are worth working for a cleaner image to protect and keep.

  9. A lot of restoration work to do, and a hard job it will be with the originals not quite in focus. I wish you better success than you've had with identifying the subjects.

  10. I wonder if they had a fight and one of the two brothers crumpled up the photo. Take that.
