It's June so let's highlight some weddings during these strange times when most weddings are on hold around the world. Here in Toronto we can't have gatherings with more than five people.

May 2011 - St. Petersburg Russia

Russian weddings can take many forms, but a marriage is only legally recognized once you have made a trip to the registration office, the Zapis Aktov Grazhdanskogo Sostoyaniya.

Couples can choose to have a small civil marriage registration affair, where the couple literally sign papers in an office and head off to party, or they can accompany this with a civil ceremony, which lasts for 15 to 30 minutes, or go the whole hog and have the longer traditional ceremony as well.

Some couples choose to sneak in this formality before their wedding day to leave more time for the fun stuff.

  1. Such beautiful photos, and interesting info about Russian wedding traditions.
Tomorrow will be our 48th anniversary. Hard to believe it.

  2. ...weddings have had to changed. Fancy is out and simple is in. Perhaps that's a good thing! Thanks Jackie for stopping by, take care.

  3. I've had two weddings. The first was a formal one in the same church where my mom and dad were married. I thought that would make it a forever marriage, but was I wrong. The second was informal on Christmas Eve in their home in front of the Christmas Tree. It was much less involved, but the marriage has been a wonderful and lasting one. Guess it isn't the ceremony format that matters. - Margy

  4. How awesome to have your wedding outdoors! Lovely photos! I was married on a boat out in the Tasman Sea with fish and chips on the beach as a reception :)

Thanks for being a part of 'My Corner of the World' this week!
