July 2020 - Niagara Region ON

A gorgeous, not humid, day - my birthday week.

Owned by radio and television sports broadcasting personality Bob McCown, Stoney Ridge has charmed customers for over 30 years. They produce a wide range of premium VQA wines, as well as celebrity brands including The Tragically Hip and Doug Gilmour. The experience is complemented by several unique offerings, including lush sprawling gardens, outdoor patios, and the Cheese Cellar boutique, which carries over 25 different local artisanal cheeses.

And their gardens were exquisite.

However, their only sales person on the floor provided no overview of their wines.
She simply manned the cash.

We have been on the lookout since our first visit for Pearl Morrisette Winery.
We have been up and down this street looking for it, today we even used our two GPS, to no avail.

But we were curious about this spot that had no sign.

So we turned in and there was lots of activity around their kitchen, getting ready to reopen as Stage 3 allowed inside dining. We asked, and it was Pearl Morissette.
Pearl Morissette Estate Winery is a unique partnership born in 2007 between Toronto-based developer, Mel Pearl and Burgundy trained vignernon, François Morissette. They share the same uncompromising vision that values a traditional and non-interventive approach to wine growing in order to deliver premium quality wines. At Pearl Morissette, we produce wines from estate vineyards maintained by a set of rigorous standards. We aim to show the inherent beauty of the Niagara wine region through a process of exploration and integrity, as we grow and harvest our fruit with a philosophy that values tradition and honours sustainable practices.

Open by appointment only on weekends.

200 years and still growing! Nestled in the quaint community of Jordan, the Honsberger Estate is a family run farm that has been in the family since 1811. Some of the very first peaches in Ontario were grown here. Honsberger Estate is the setting for over 50 weddings each summer, and home to the Oven Bistro (the areas best wood oven pizza) as well as the Small Barn Restaurant during the winter in the est. 1831 barn. Honsberger Estate Winery is one of Ontario’s smallest boutique wineries producing nationally award-winning wines from grapes grown on the estate.

We had lunch here on their patio. It was the only winery we have visited that we haven't bought a bottle. We felt their wine list in restaurant was too expensive.

London Born a revisit as we had loved their $10 "pizza" wine. We also had a tasting.

  1. We used to love touring wineries ... there are a lot of good ones in Oregon . A few of them are reopening around here, maybe someday.
