February 2020 - Toronto ON
Sunday we took the subway to Yorkville to see the Ice Fest, click here to see the ice sculptures.
It was almost impossible to get photos without people posing. Why do people HAVE to stand beside every sculpture to get their photos taken???
Maple syrup taffy on snow!
Actually saw a woman wearing a real mink full length coat!!!!
The rest of the week was mundane, John had lunch with a friend, I met a friend for coffee, Costco and a haircut.
Random shots from this week.
Union Station TV in the food court.
To put the size in perspective.
Another sweet pop up in Union.
Teachers' strike outside the Royal York.
College Park.
TTC had another bad day as I waited and waited..Another derailment.
People are making spoof ads of the new fare evasion ads that are popping up everywhere.
Good gluten free pasta selection at Eataly.
Friday, Valentine's Day with bone chilling temperatures, but at least the sun was out. Feels like -25C is -13F or 13 below 0!
I stayed underground on my treks around town. Display in the first office lobby I passed through.
Plenty of flowers for sale everywhere!
Waiting area at Pickle Barrel restaurant.
Walking through Union Station in the VIA section was weirdly quiet. All trains across the country are cancelled until further notice. Why?
Click here to read about the Indigenous protests.
And then to add insult to injury UP service from Union to the airport was suspended this morning for six hours due to signal issues.
And I came home to this!
And it's a long weekend here - Monday is Family Day.
MENU
Asian ground pork lettuce wrapsLamb chops roast potatoes and baby carrots
Chips and eggs
John had a late lunch so I had the leftovers - corned beef, mashed potatoes and mushy peas.
Carbonara with chicken - first time using chicken instead of pancetta. Will go back to using pancetta, the chicken was too bland. New gluten free spaghetti from Eataly was really good.
Steak baked potato oven roasted broccoli.
I finished Our House, and it is my favourite book of this year, so far. I loved it to the point of plotting how I could pull this off...just kidding.
I also finished Autopsy of a Boring Wife, a quick fun read from a Canadian writer.
Started another book only to realize I had read it a few years ago.

...you sure are a hardy bunch in Toronto.
ReplyDeleteIt's much too cold for me in Toronto.. Love your new blog photo with all the lit up trees lining the street.
ReplyDeleteHah the Pickle Barrel, still floating along. Such an institution. I remember the Riverboat, oh what times we had in Yorkville then. Underground Railroad, so many memories.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you are a connoisseur of mushy peas. As am I.

I think I would suffer from nomophobia but I am never without my phone, so I don't know. Feels like -25 is unimaginable yet still the city and country functions. I was furious when at MOMA in NYC and I was looking at a painting and a man asked if I could move so he could take a photo of his wife standing with the painting and I fully understand the frustration of people posing with things and views, and you can't get a photo.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, why do they need to stand in front of every painting, sculpture, landmark! And they take their sweet time posing.
DeleteI am pretty sure I am would not cope with the cold that you all deal with so regularly!
ReplyDeleteI love maple sugar snow candy! You have more snow than we do on the other side of the lakes, and I can see why you stayed underground. I didn't realize Eataly had so many GF choices.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness. I can't even imagine that sort of cold. Negative numbers of coldness. Don't parts of you freeze when you simply step outside? Please stay warm.
ReplyDeleteAlthough the Ice Fest looks fun enough to draw me out into it...maybe....
Must share more about Our House.
Have a lovely week.
Lovely photos! I've never been to an ice fest and it looks like I'd love it. Stay warm!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely thing to come home to.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a great reading week
So cold! That is our 'normal' Finnish winter temperature, but today +5C! Odd. Pretty pictures & fun happenings.
ReplyDeleteGlad to say I don't have nomophobia, lol. Those socks look snuggly warm, perfect to wear while reading.
ReplyDeleteHave the same objection about people posing with statues! I've actually never tried pancetta - maybe I should make an effort to do it:) Love you outside capture with the pinkish balls in the trees - looks interesting. My goodness, Jackie, I don't know if I would be able to breathe in such cold weather! The same for flowers - poor things:) Sure hope weather will warm up soon for you!!Man thanks for your All Seasons link and have a warmer week!
ReplyDeleteI've had taffy with snow here at Winterlude.
