Starts with "A"
I managed to stay with the APPLE theme!

So it's not quite the famous Big Apple we all hear about.
But at almost 11 metres high, the Big Apple in Colborne, Ont., stands as the largest of its kind. The bright red icon beside highway 401 between Toronto and Kingston spotlights the main local crop.

According to the township of Cramahe tourism information, the Apple receives over 500,000 visitors per year. The restaurant and bakery serve about 2,000 pies a week, selling more than three million since they first opened.

At 42 tonnes and 11.6 metre wide, the Big Apple could hold 653,800 real apples. It is made of fibreglass and foam.

  5. Love your photos this week! We've been to the "Big Apple" many times, my first trip was to the 1965 World's Fair, I had just turned 14. I remember it well! In recent years, we used to go to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, we probably went for maybe five or six years in a row, then stopped. It was so much fun to be there! Happy New Year, Jackie!

  7. very cool - I grew up in the suburbs of 'the Big Apple', so of course I've been there a million times. if you drive out of the City, up into the Catskills where so many NYers have gone to camp over the generations, you'll pass 'The Red Apple Rest', which is a famous area featuring a large red apple on a billboard, and a sign. not as big as the apple You've posted, but yours brought the one I grew up knowing to mind.

  8. I live down the highway from the Big Apple. Been there a few times when we have gone to visit family near Kingston. I highly recommend getting an apple pie while there.

  9. Your NY apple box is magnificent! I wonder if NY City ever thought of erecting a gigantic Big Apple statue.
