Monday Mural

I'm linking up at Monday Mural hosted by Oakland Daily Photo.

September 2015 - Galway Ireland

Check out our day in Galway. Here's a detailed look at that mural I mentioned. The artist is Ciarán Dunlevy.

Since 1988 Sally Long's has been bringing metal and hard rock to the Galway Pub scene.

The huge mural on the gable wall of Sally's firmly nails its colours to the mast regarding their musical tastes. Such legends as Axl Rose can be seen in this wonderfully detailed homage to past and present musicians.

There’s Elvis up in heaven pointing a finger at God in a nod to Michelangelo’s famous painting on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.

The stars at the ‘last supper’ table are all dead while the ones painted below that image are still around. There are 24 in all and they are all very recognizable.

I wouldn't have known there were more murals inside if Mick, our driver, hadn't taken us in. This is his local and he had spent time as a bouncer here.
Inside the theme is continued with another mural with more Rock legends depicted in "The Last Supper" scene.

The ceiling.

As an aside to this mural we had had discussions with Mick about who wrote Forty Shades of Green. Mick didn't agree so I have it on Wikipedia's expertise.
"Forty Shades of Green" is a song about Ireland, written and first performed by American country singer Johnny Cash. Cash wrote the song in 1958 while on a trip to Ireland; it was first released as a B-side of the song "The Rebel–Johnny Yuma" in 1961.

So yes, K and B, you were right!
