Signs 2

For Tuesday Treasures I posted photos from a 1992 road trip to Tennessee. It had me comparing photos from more recent trips to Nashville.

These photos are from 2013.

Cotton Eyed Joe for souvenirs.

Acme Farm Supply, a fixture in Nashville for over ninety years, called this three-story building home for over fifty years. Acme Stock & Poultry Company originally operated on First Avenue North near the Public Square, beginning in 1907. Generations of Nashvillians knew that Acme was the place to go for poultry, feed, and seed; the company diversified in the latter years of the 20th century to include pet supplies and gardening supplies and Nashville promotional items for tourists. The three-story commercial Victorian building was originally a flour warehouse, but also served as the Bearden Buggy Company, Tennessee Wholesale Drugs, and Chadwell Transfer & Storage before Acme moved to this location in the 1940s. Competition from suburban big-box retailers and encroaching urban development forced Acme Farm Supply to close in 1999.

The architecturally significant Merchants Restaurant building dates back to 1892.

Specializing in country and bluegrass vintage vinyl records, the Lawrence Record Shop has been in operation since 1954 by the Lawrence family of Hendersonville, including Jack Lawrence (1926-1994) and Ida Lawrence (1922-2015). Their son Paul Lawrence was longtime manager of the shop. Closed in 2016. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and protected by a conservation overlay.

Now closed. Paradise Park Trailer Resort.

Toronto ON
Click here for a history of Toronto lane naming and a list of other lanes. That post is a work in progress, and gets updated frequently.

This has been languishing in my drafts folder as I cannot find the reason for the name.
It is near Victoria St.

The pub sign belongs to the Imperial Pub, and don't believe the hype in their write up. We went in last summer and walked back out.

The historical Imperial Pub is a true Toronto landmark that has been pouring draught for 64 years and counting. It is also a truly a family business. Jack Newman founded the Imperial Pub in 1944. His son Fred joined him behind the bar in 1968.

There are/were some murals down the lane if you can manage the stench! It's not a lane I would walk down.

There is a nice utility box at the corner.

The Silver Dollar Room was a live music venue located next to the main floor of the Hotel Waverly, a four-storey low-rise hotel located in downtown Toronto. Opened in 1900, the hotel was built for J.J. Powell. It is one of the oldest Toronto hotels in continuous operation.
The Room opened in 1958 and closed on May 1, 2017 to be redeveloped as a 15-storey mixed-use building, due to its Heritage Designation Status in 2015 the Silver Dollar will reopen with its distinctive exterior sign and the internal mural reinstated.
