January 2016 - San Miguel de Allende Mexico

Every week there is a Tuesday Market, El Tianguis de los Martes, held about 1.5 miles from the centre of San Miguel.

We walked over to Mega and grabbed a cab "up the hill". The usual cost $45 pesos. Going back it is not easy to get a cab for some reason. We watched them drop people off and we would hail them but they would just drive away. I later read that it is not uncommon not to get a cab. We walked over to Liverpool and got one there.

SMA has two other daily markets which I love. The Tuesday Market is by far the largest with make-shift , open air stalls selling produce, meat, toys, CDs, movies, clothes, taco stands, anything you could possibly imagine. There are even live animals.

The cab dropped us and we just stood, amazed at the size and sounds.

It was quite windy on our visit so the tarpaulins were swaying dangerously over our heads, well, we thought so anyway.

A friend was recently bemoaning not being able to find slips at home.

For the uninitiated, choosing lunch at the mercados can be a bit overwhelming. It was hard to figure out how to order never mind what we wanted!!!

He told me 'no photos"! An elegant Mexican woman behind me, said in perfect English, "don't mind him, take all the photos you want. He thinks he's an artiste, and wants to be paid." And she walked on shopping, followed by her young good-looking toy boy (with the tattoo on his neck) who was carrying her straw basket. Well, it is my blog, and I can make any assumptions that please me.

So we finally bit the bullet and ordered. We chose chicharrón (see at the very bottom of the list behind her) from the menu and ordered four tacos. Then you add your toppings.
Not a good choice, too salty. Lunch:abandoned.

Oh well, we could get more churros, if we could ever find them again in this maze. We did.
