Our Week in Food

September 2016 - Toronto ON

After a very late Friday night (3AM Saturday) with friends we had a lazy Saturday or what is called (my new word this week):
Hygge is as Danish as pork roast and it goes far in illuminating the Danish soul. In essence, hygge means creating a warm atmosphere and enjoying the good things in life with good people. The warm glow of candlelight is hygge. Friends and family – that’s hygge too. There's nothing more hygge than sitting round a table, discussing the big and small things in life. Perhaps hygge explains why the Danes are the happiest people in the world?

We did some babysitting for a few hours in the afternoon.

The CNE Air Show started today even though we had seen them flying over on Friday as they practiced. John got this photo from our balcony.

Sunday we watched the CNE Air Show from the 46th floor of our building. Look at all the people and boats out there. The boats are cordoned in by police boats, they are not allowed in the lake space where the planes will be flying over. That space is reserved for a fire rescue boat.

Monday is Labour Day and the city is packed. It is hot and sunny. We planned on taking the streetcar to the Buskerfest but there was a detour sign at the stop that we couldn't quite figure out so came back and took the car.
WOW it was busy along the Lakeshore. The Air Show was taking place, the CNE was in its last day and it was just a gorgeous day.

Snapped these while driving (John not me).

You can buy tickets for the show and they are seated on the other side of the road in bleachers. Many people are the CNE just come and sit here. Or others just stake a spot along the lake.

The man on the far left (next to no shoes/socks guy) walked up to me later and we had worked together years ago!

A Mexican busker who was very funny with his Trump jokes! As well as poking fun at the stereotypical Mexican.

Using an audience member to help him do this stunt.

It is 33 C or 91 F as we decide we have had enough.

Tuesday and Wednesday John golfed and I did various things around. Was supposed to lunch with my BFF but she wasn't feeling well.

We finally had a good rain storm!! Look at the giant spider outside our window (27th floor). he's been a busy little guy! He disappeared during the downpour (don't you lust want to launch into Itsy Bitsy Spider???) but reappeared after the storm.

Thursday after an appointment we went to the Distillery District for a Mexican lunch.

This place was great, gluten free beer on tap and the menu was clearly labelled for nuts, gluten and vegan.

Ceviche Verde, small portion but delicious.

CEVICHE VERDE
Bay scallop, shrimp, daily fish marinated with green tomatillo ice

John had the Taco PASTOR
Marinated shaved pork, pineapple, red onion dice, cilantro

Wandering around.

Some other random photos from this week.

Count down to the World Cup of Hockey.

Finished Hidden Bodies and loved it, although there was a point in the middle where it got boring.  I now need to read the first book in the series as I anticipate a third book.
Also finished The Accidental Book Club (boring).
Started A Free Life.

  1. Terrific perspective for the air show. And I see Pancho Libre made it there. He also was here for our Buskerfest. Great act!

  2. What a awesome day with the air show and other festivities. Looking at your food photos has made me crave Mexican food. We're going to an antique machinery show today ... maybe there will be a mexican food truck. I can dream.

I'll have to look for Hidden Bodies. I don't have Accidental Book Club; I'll trust you and pass.

  3. Oh wow! What a fun day and what an interesting event! Love all the pictures though I don't think I'd ever be as brave as the audience participant who is helping the guy do his stunt!
