A niece and I attended Wednesday Harvest at the Gladstone Hotel. A monthly event featuring locally grown foods.
Along with hosting the television series Surreal Gourmet, Glutton for Punishment and World’s Weirdest Restaurants, Bob has written five acclaimed cookbooks and serves as an Ambassador to Second Harvest in Toronto spreading the word about food rescue and hunger relief. He even designed one of the Gladstone Hotel’s artist designed hotel rooms called the Surreal Gourmet.
Vendors for the evening include Bob Blumer, Gladstone Hotel, Collingwood Whiskey, Stratus Vineyards, Grange of PEC, Kacaba Vineyard, Lost Craft Brewery, Second Harvest, Abokichi and more!
A couple of years ago we were invited to a Second Harvest benefit by our financial advisor, Linda. Bob Bulmer was the celebrity chef who cooked our entire meal. He was and still is delightful and unassuming. I realize I never did a post on that event so here is a photo of our main course and a link to the recipe.
Lamb cupcake (sorry crummy pic).
So not only is he a chef, has had several TV food shows, cookbook author he also draws!!
Some of his work was on display.
The event was staged in the ballroom and some side rooms to resemble a food fair. We walked around and sampled many things.
There was music.
Our first sample, from Abokichi rice with chili oil miso, Delicious.
We tried a Canadian local whiskey.
Gazpacho was set out.
Bob prepared three different dishes.
Kale salad.
Yummy smoked duck with local melon and topped with Ontario gooseberry from Chick-a-biddy Acres a community shared agriculture endeavor.
Servers also walked around with plates such as grilled peach and halloumi,, I would definitely serve that.
This was a roasted beet apple and ??? on a pecan crust.
And since my niece had already tried crickets I decided I had to try them too. I prefered the salted to the salsa.
Several Niagara wineries provided samples as well as a brewery Lost Craft.
Now this was a novel idea, would be cool for a party or shower. From Shotberry.
The vials were infused with with Bailey's or your alcohol choice.
Sounds like you enjoyed it. The Gladstone has a lot of character.
