My Recipe Box - One Sheet Fajitas

January 2023 - Toronto ON

This recipe also works well with a store bought rotisserie chicken. Steak would be good too. You could also make this vegetarian.

Fajita seasoning mix

Can also be used for tacos.

1 tablespoon chili powder
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
Combine all seasonings together and store in an airtight container.

Ingredients - serves 4

1 1/2 lbs chicken breast tenders or boneless skinless thighs. rotisserie chicken
2 large bell peppers (any color)
1 yellow onion
Jalapenos
Siracha
1 tbsp olive oil
1 packet fajita seasoning mix - I make my own see above
1 lime
tortillas
optional fajita toppings (shredded cheese, avocado, cilantro, sour cream, red onion,  iceberg lettuce, tomatoes etc.)

Instructions

Preheat oven to 425 degrees and grease a large baking sheet.

Cut the bell peppers and the onion into long 1/4 inch slices and place them into a large bowl. Toss them with the chicken, olive oil and packet of fajita seasoning mix until well combined.

Spread the mixture out onto your prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through, and then turn the broiler on for about 2 minutes allowing the veggies to brown a little.

During the last 5 minutes of cooking, wrap the tortillas in foil and place them in the oven to warm through.

Squeeze the lime juice all over the hot fajita mixture, and serve in your warm tortillas with any additional toppings that you'd like.

I love nothing more than a market, anywhere in the world.

The Spice Bazaar (Turkish: Mısır Çarşısı, meaning "Egyptian Bazaar") in Istanbul is one of the largest bazaars in the city. Located in the Eminönü quarter of the Fatih district, it is the most famous covered shopping complex after the Grand Bazaar.
.

The word mısır has a double meaning in Turkish: "Egypt" and "maize". This is why sometimes the name is wrongly translated as "Corn Bazaar". The bazaar was (and still is) the center for spice trade in Istanbul, but in recent years shops of other types are gradually replacing the sellers of spices.

The building itself is part of the külliye (complex) of the New Mosque. The revenues obtained from the rented shops inside the bazaar building were used for the upkeeping of the mosque.

Spice Bazaar has a total of 85 shops selling spices, Turkish delight and other sweets, jewellery, souvenirs, and dried fruits and nuts.

Where's My Backpack Travel Theme - Flavour

My first thought for this challenge was Turkey and I will focus on Istanbul.

First we'll fortify ourselves with tea.

Then we'll go to the Spice Bazaar.

November 2010 - Istanbul Turkey

I was chatting with a friend this week and she asked about Istanbul and I realized I had never posted any photos of the Spice Market or any other food photos from that amazing city. We didn't spend long enough there.

It was a dreary late November afternoon as we arrived. It was probably only around 4 PM but like home darkness came early.

Grey and dull but these women give it a vibrant feel.

Rows of spices,oh how I wished I could have bought some! So much nicer than jars in the supermarket. But then I don't buy the jars, I like to shop at the Bulk Barn for my spices, and buy just what I will use.

Turkish Delight! I will never eat the candy bar type that we sell at home again! You know, the dark red chewy one that could pull your fillings out. I think you either love it or hate it, no in between,

A tea break before heading home.
