Day 1 - Bangkok to Siem Reap, fish massage, market

Day 6 February 11 Siem Reap 

Today, continue your sightseeing of the Angkor temples. Unlike the other temples, TA PROHM has been left relatively untouched. Tree roots grow over and through the ruin walls, allowing you to experience the temple with the same wonder as the early explorers who discovered it.















Then, visit BANTEAY SREI, a unique temple dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. Unlike other temples, it is built on a small scale from red sandstone, which can be carved like wood.

Next, stop at LES ARTISANS D’ANGKOR, a development project teaching young adults traditional handicraft techniques.

Of course, the shopping excursion. Nothing was purchased, but the box I bought at the market was cheaper here!

The rest of the afternoon is at your leisure to explore this charming town. (Breakfast)

The bus dropped us at the market and we had a quick lunch at the Red Piano.

A foot massage (again) for John and I had my hair coloured along with a massage.

Back to the hotel by tuk tuk and we decide to have a drink in the bar before heading out to dinner. It turns out that the dancers were putting on a show at the hotel so we ended up staying in for the show and dinner.

The name Siem Reap literally means "Siam Defeated". These days, however, the only rampaging hordes are the tourists heading to the Angkor Archaeological Park. This once quaint village has become the largest boom town and construction site in Cambodia. It's quite laid-back and a pleasant place to stay while touring the temples and a nice compromise between observing Cambodian life and enjoying the amenities of modern services and entertainment, thanks to a large expatriate community.

Today, fly to Siem Reap, your base during your visit to Angkor, considered by many to be the most spectacular architectural ruins on Earth!

We left Bangkok at 11 AM - eight of us in two vans. Check in was easy.

Bangkok airport is HUGE and I love how they have interesting pieces of art.

We are met by our guide Phiem who will be with us for the duration of this trip. We are given an overview on the bus, our room keys are also provided, so no check in require.

VICTORIA ANGKOR RESORT SPA

The Victoria Angkor Resort Spa provides a sense of serenity with the nostalgic comfort and elegant refinement of the French Art de Vivre in the heart of Siem Reap. The building's graceful colonial architecture of the 1930's provides a sense of peaceful tranquility.

This is a gorgeous hotel, quaint and colonial, even though it is only 12 years old. A total study on contrasts from the opulent Intercontinental Bangkok. Love both, just different.

 Six of us meet for a drink before heading our separate ways for the evening.

Another couple joined us and we headed into the night market.

Tuk-tuks are the local taxis, and the easiest way to get around Siem Reap. You can get anywhere in the main city for US$2, while good negotiators should be able to talk drivers down to a dollar. Tip the driver well and you'll have a friend for life, plus an eager tour guide who will show you the best of Siem Reap.

Honestly, the guys are being propositioned.

Just two doors down is "Angkor What?" bar.

Dinner - everything is so cheap here in Siem Reap, quite the change from Singapore and even Bangkok.
