John scrapping ice off the windshield!

Breakfast. Their dishwasher has been broken for a week so all dishes and utensils were paper/plastic.

Our hotel and breakfast location.

We've done this drive before also.

Lots of double decker freight trains with a lot of Prime.

Rest area with bathrooms and vending machines behind bars. Also no mirrors in the bathrooms.

Just outside Holbrook a trailer of a transport was on fire, traffic was backed up for miles.

A sculpture of a tall stack of petrified logs ridden by a cowboy. An Indian looks on.

Wigwam Motel 2000 2008 link above

The Wigwam Motels, also known as the "Wigwam Villages," is a motel chain in the United States built during the 1930s and 1940s. The rooms are built in the form of tipis, mistakenly referred to as wigwams. It originally had seven different locations: two locations in Kentucky and one each in Alabama, Florida, Arizona, Louisiana, and California.

They are very distinctive historic landmarks. Two of the three surviving motels are located on historic U.S. Route 66: in Holbrook, Arizona, and in San Bernardino, California. All three of the surviving motels are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

We had planned on revisiting Winslow AZ but missed the exit!

Flagstaff AZ

Flagstaff 2013 Las Vegas to Sedona

What a difference in weather!

Coming out of Flagstaff and this guy blows his right tire with rubber flying all over the road.

In 2012  we stopped in Seligman and we stayed at the Hualapai Resort outside Kingman.

A little chilly John went back to get a jacket.

Cappuccinos to go.

Well, this was interesting. We decided to make a pit stop. However, as soon as you step in there are signs stating you must purchase something to use the bathrooms. So, being good rule followers, I picked up a magnet for a friend and got in a long line. Then I saw a $15 Route 66 shaker and took that as well. The line took forever, everyone was cashing in lotto tickets and buying more for the Arizona Mega Millions.
Did I mention there is a gun range outside, so weird to hear guns for us Canadians.
Anyhoo, the line is so long, one cashier who is also answering the phone. She answers, gives some info and then realizes it is someone in line behind us who wants to know the prices for the range!
Finally I put my merchandise down and we "sneak" into the bathrooms.

First sighting of the Strip.

It is St. Patrick's Day and the staff at Grand Desert are all dressed in green. Check-in was easy, usual routine.

This is your "key" to the elevator, your room, the shuttle bus and debits to your room. You can even shower with it.

Once the bellman brought all our stuff up and a bag of ice we headed out for some groceries for the evening and breakfast the next day.
Then we put our feet up!

We stayed at the Grand Desert in 2017, 2014.
