Drinking Stories

September 2018 - Toronto ON

How did it get to September already???

Saturday
September Monthly Theme TEACH

John was playing in a golf tournament with dinner. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do. I did need to stock up at Bulk Barn so I was thinking King St. but then decided to go to Jane and Bloor.  This area is known as Bloor West Village and I slowly strolled along poking in and out of the cute shops.

There were many more of these cute bags in the lavender shop in my detailed post.

Caught this flyover from the CNE air show on Bloor St.

John parked himself in front of the golf. I made slow cooker ribs for dinner and fried rice.

And then used a new ice cream recipes which we really liked, using frozen mixed berries we had in the freezer.

The air show was on again today. We had watched it up on the 44th floor of our building a couple of years ago.
I decided to go down by the lake and see what was happening.

Right outside our door people have found a green spot to watch.

No boats allowed beyond the yellow buoys.

Nabbed! Police were all sirens as this boat encroached the waters. There are people lining the water's edge.

A relaxing day.

Air show continued as I watched these people watching.

Dinner was steak, fries and sauteed mushrooms, onion and green pepper.

Tuesday

Lunch at the Museum Tavern before my BFF and I went to the ROM to see what the museum described as:

Look beyond fashion and explore the endless possibilities that come from interweaving design, art, and technology in Iris van Herpen: Transforming Fashion.

.

The exhibition explores the extraordinary designs of Dutch couturier, Iris van Herpen, through her 2008-2015 collections that push the boundaries of traditional fashion and craftsmanship.

Accompanying Iris van Herpen: Transforming Fashion is the immersive installation Philip Beesley: Transforming Space. Together, they take you on a captivating exploration into design, fashion, technology and the world around us.

Suffice it to say that we enjoyed the exhibit but wouldn't have wanted to pay for the tickets (was included in my membership). I won't bore you with more photos.

Outside the ROM.

We wandered along Bloor St or the Mink Mile and stopped into Indigo for a book. I may have shown this Margaret Atwood poster before.

But I discovered if I stood to the right of it, Leonard was featured!

And to the left is Rupi Kaur, thanks to Indigo for letting me know.

Wednesday

A very hot muggy day and I returned some library books at City Hall branch.

Walked back underground with a stop in The Bay, bought nothing. But some interesting displays...

I had mentioned finding a shorter route underground from The Bay going south. I followed it from Pusateri's in The Bay into the Bay Adelaide Centre and up to street level to find that it is indeed a new building directly across from Scotia Plaza and brings you to Winners.

This is much shorter than going via the Sheraton Centre.

Continuing with my empty the freezer mission dinner was soup. I used frozen homemade chicken stock, added some more frozen chicken bones (then discarded) frozen leftover Asian chicken, and cooked rice.

We both decided to have a day at home to do as we liked. I worked on our daily itinerary for Spain in November.

I made date squares, again using what I had.

Considering it had been a flat gray sky all day we were treated to this sunset.

What it looked like when I came out of the kitchen.

We both did some errands and John went golfing, it was a beautiful day.

TIFF, Toronto International Film Festival, is in full swing. I will have to check it out next week.

As I walked up Yonge St.

The Royal York, a Fairmont hotel, had decorated its windows to show movies that were filmed in some of their locations. I only caught one, will get the others next week.

And on the sidewalk below the window:

BOOKS

2018 Stratford ON

I mentioned last week that I had an author crush on Elizabeth Day, I finished Paradise City and it was her best book!

I gave up on Bellevue Square , as I thought I would. It is readable and I loved the descriptions of Toronto's Kensington Market and the characters in the park. But it just got too strange and I tuned out.

Started How To Be Famous so far a fun read and started, on my phone, My Husband's Lies which is getting off to a great start.

  5. The fashion exhibit is wild! And a lot of fun. I like the clean out the freezer mission -- I really should do the same. I can't wait for your trip to Spain -- you always share so many great photos when you travel. And ribs ... I have a couple recipes for doing them in the pressure cooker and then the grill; maybe now that it's cooling down I'll give it a try. AND you had a great week in books too.

  6. So many lovely photos (as always!) that I don't know where to begin with my comments. My favorite could be the changeable Margaret Atwood poster. Or it could be the changeable sunset! Toronto looks like a vibrant city with something interesting to do or see at every turn. A great place to live.
Thank you for visiting my blog today and leaving a comment.
