Saturday Snapshot

Saturday Snapshots is hosted by Alyce at At Home With Books.

May 2009 - Xian China

These photos were taken in Xian, China. We went to the opera and there was a dumpling dinner served prior to the show.

Click on the photos to get a really clear shot to make your mouth water!!
Each steamer came with 3 types of dumpling and 3 pieces of each as we were 3 meat-loving people. M had her own vegeterian dumplings and vegeterian soup was also provided.

Pork – shaped like a pig
Shark’s fin

Chcken – piece of corn at top to resemble an egg
Pork and leek
Hazelnut - loved these if anyone knows of a recipe....

Fried dumplings
Large plate of regular pork
Chicken Soup with baby dumplings

Duck – shaped like a duck

Lotus root with lemon

  1. Amazing. Kind of like food art.

  2. What a creative way to make dumplings! Almost a shame to eat them.

  3. Gorgeous dumplings! they are such work, but taste so incredible! The duck dumpling is amazing! Opera huh? Italian, German, French, or Chinese libretto?

  4. We really enjoyed the food in Xian. I am adding your blog to my News From Italy blogroll as although I follow you it is an easier way to make sure I do not miss any of your interesting posts.

  5. Those dumplings look amazing, and just a tiny bit creepy :-)

  6. My first reaction to the animal-shaped food was that they were adorable...and then I realized I'm not sure I could EAT them! Both because I'd hate to destroy the art and because, well...I'm a city girl and I don't want to think too hard about the original form of the meat I'm eating!

  7. That duck almost looks too good to eat...almost!

    Great photos!
    Here's My SS

  8. Those are works of art! I definitely would prefer the veggie ones myself though. :)

  9. Well, I came for Saturday Snapshot, but I am leaving as a Follower(!) Your site and pictures are incredible!! I can't wait to follow along :)

  10. Oh my gosh... what a fantastic meal experience!

  11. Definitely food art. I wish I had the patience to do something like this.

  12. Wow. That must have been amazing. I've never seen anything like those ducks.
