Thursday Art Date

 September 2020 - Toronto ON

Rain's Garden's challenge is Eyes and Ears. This is my first time participating as I need some new creative challenges.

I had so many ideas but decided to stick with our cats, Porter and Parnell, now gone for a few years.

I haven't scrapbooked in a few years!

I recently had this photo made into a mask for John.

FAVOURITE

Shhhh...be quiet.

QUARTER

I'm taking a different view on this week's word.

This is The Hung, Drawn and Quartered pub near the Tower of London by London Bridge.

To be hanged, drawn and quartered was from 1352 a statutory penalty in England for men convicted of high treason, although the ritual was first recorded during the reign of King Henry III (1216–1272). A convicted traitor was fastened to a hurdle, or wooden panel, and drawn by horse to the place of execution, where he was then hanged(almost to the point of death), emasculated, disembowelled, beheaded, and quartered (chopped into four pieces). The traitor's remains were often displayed in prominent places across the country, such as London Bridge. For reasons of public decency, women convicted of high treason were instead burned at the stake.

It takes its name from the traditional punishment dished out to traitors of the realm, often on nearby Tower Hill. A quote from Samuel Pepys, describing how he went to see a man subjected to the punishment ("He was looking as cheerful as a man could in that condition") is on a plaque outside.

August 2018 - Montreal QC

Titled Street Cat 2015

ARTWORK DESCRIPTION

This mural, painted with the partners Innovation Youth , the Ville de Montreal and Bombingscience, is located in the heart of downtown Montreal. Inspired by its urban environment, it represents our favorite citizen. Lurking in graffiti and poster filled back alleys, our street cat finds adventure on every corner. Under the superficial layers of perception, a world of beauty and excitement is his hidden home. Painted by Ankh One and Dodo Ose.

My first time playing so I went to my external hard drive and did a search on "water cool" expecting a photo of kids playing in a fountain or water splashing. But this is the first photo that popped up.
From 2003 when we had two cats, Porter and Parnell, and we were still working and living in our house. Both cats have crossed the Rainbow Bridge but still make us smile. We no longer work and now live in a condo.

Now to the photos I was originally thinking of, both taken in Mexico, where we often spend the winter months.

Monday Mural With Some Tunes

I'm linking up at Monday Mural hosted by Oakland Daily Photo.

March 2017 - Bakersfield CA

I posted some other murals within a post about Bakersfield. But I kept these for a Monday post because I thought they were very special.

Merle Haggard and Buck Owens sing The Streets of Bakersfield. It so happens they both married the same woman, at different times!

And the Rolling Stones mention Bakersfield in this song, Far Away Eyes.

Done by Thomas (Zak) Zachery, from Bakersfield on a restaurant The Mark. They are on several sides of the building.

Love the red carpet!

This landmark drinking establishment was founded in 1940, originally as Oscar’s Alley Cat, and still pours drinks well into the evening, with no shortage of customers.

Located on Wall Street, which is actually an alley in downtown, Guthrie’s Alley Cat can’t be seen from any of the navigable roads in town.

Tony Saldano was the local artist for this one.

Across the alley.

Yet another special one.
