June 2025 - Reykjavik Iceland

Laugavegur 66. Wall Poetry series. D*FACE and Agent Fresco inspired by Laxdæla Saga.

This piece is paired with the song "Wait for Me" by Agent Fresco and is inspired by the Icelandic saga, Laxdæla. At the bottom of the mural is a quote from Guðrún Ósvífursdóttir, the main female character in Laxdæla Saga. Caught in a love triangle in her youth, she was asked in her older years who she loved the most. She answered: „Þeim var ég verst er ég unni mest,“ which has been translated as “To him I was worst whom I loved the most.” Who doesn‘t love drama?!

Back of the building at Hverfisgata 4-6. Li Hill with John Grant, inspired by the song “Pale Green Ghosts” by John Grant. The details of the dancer's face and throat as she turns, so elegant, are so strange, floating above the neighbouring dwelling houses and office buildings.

Li Hill is a Canadian/American visual artist based in Brooklyn.

The entrance to the Prime Minister's Office is here.

This is beside it.

Artwork at the side of the building on Laugavegur 70 depicts gyrfalcon, the national bird of Iceland. Gyrfalcons have the unique ability to change characteristics; they have many colours and varieties in their species. It’s interesting that gyrfalcons don’t build their own nests, they nest inside cliffs and rocky holes. Sometimes, they lay eggs in another bird’s nest.

Three nicely looking birds with no eyes on Frakkastigur. Couldn’t find their story.

I was surprised that this was included in articles about street art, we had walked by it a few times without taking a photo.

2017 - Fort Smith AR

Part Two

This is part three and the last post on Fort Smith, but it doesn't even cover half of the murals in this town and more have been added every year.

Bordalo Segundo was born in Lisbon, Portugal, in 1987. The artist creates his signature pieces with end-of-life materials to promote sustainability and increase social awareness among his generation of consumers, which he describes as wasteful.
His Opossum was one of two outdoor sculptures he created in 2016.

War Paint by D*FACE

He had another mural which I showed in part one of this series.

D*FACE is a British (London) artist revered as one of most prolific contemporary urban artists of his generation. He has been a leading figure in urbanart for well over a decade. Known for his subversive images, which involve a family of dysfunctional characters whose roles are to shock as well as entertain, his work challenges orthodox thinking and encourages the public to not just ‘see’ but to look at their surroundings.

The Choctaw Nation was the underwriter for this third D*FACE work in Fort Smith and the final one for the 2016 Unexpected art festival organized by 64.6 Downtown and curated by the international street art group JustKids.

The Oklahoma-based tribe also contributed historical context and authenticity for D*FACE in his design of the arrows.

Carving designs into the repurposed telephone poles, painting the grooves and attaching the three 120-pound fletchings to each of the 40-foot pieces of yellow pine from Mississippi was eased with a donated space downtown.

Pastel, part of the Jaz and Pastel team.

This last mural does not appear to be part of The Unexpected project. I couldn't find out anything about it.

March 2024 - Las Vegas NV

Keya Tama is a South African artist based in the United States, between Los Angeles and New York. Inspired by pastel color palettes, pattern, and symbolism, Keya Tama has been a practicing artist and muralist since the age of thirteen. His style can be describe as ancient contemporary minimalism; by processing and refining images into minimalistic forms while maintaining their essence, his works aim to reunite old and new through contrasting yet unified iconography.

MURAL UPDATE

Tama's mural replaced this mural taken in 2015 that I never posted!
Australian superstar Fintan Magee and his cute rabbits.

March 2024
Italian artist Agostino Iacurci (agostinoiacurci.com) created this lively, bright-colored landscape work for the 2021 Life Is Beautiful festival at the behest of “global creative house” JustKids, which commissions fresh street art for the fest every year. Other artists have painted this wall for past LIB events—a piece by Dead Stockton, aka D*Face, covered it for several years—but Iacurci is the first to regard it as a wall, with painted-on passageways and supporting columns.

MURAL UPDATE

As mentioned above, the D*Face mural was painted over for Iacurci's. Taken in 2015.

BTW I found this in March 2024

The parking lot for 9:30 breakfast at 7th and Carson (also name of restaurant!).

We had seen this one by D*Face in 2015, nice to see that it is still there. This area is under renovation and the roads are torn up and many buildings bulldozed.

We then headed to the North factory outlets and it got cold and rainy. John had to go back to the car to get our jackets.

We decided to explore the Art District.

On the side of a Mexican restaurant.

Shake a leg!

Jorge Betancourt Polanco

I thought the sitting man was part of the mural at first.

Ah Las Vegas, has a little of everything, including a ten foot high, giant licking cat head. Originally, first displayed on October 14th, 2014, and dedicated on November 6th, 2014, this sculpture located in the Arts District is of a tan cat with its eyes closed to slits and its tongue out as if it is licking something invisible standing in front of it. It wears a tag and a blue collar, and has a squished sphere for a body. The sculpture is called "Snowball in Vegas" and most people stand in front of Snowball pretending to have their head licked by the giant cat.

It got cold and rainy again so we decided to head back.

This is new since we were last here.
