Weekend Cooking

July 2016 - Buffalo, Rochester and Toronto

Where to start this week!
Saturday we drove to Taste of Buffalo. I will only feature the food that we sampled and save the others for a longer post.

This is very different from the Taste of Toronto that we go to every year. Taste operates as a restaurant offering afternoon and evening services with an entrance fee which keeps the crowds down and the portions are larger and pricier. In Toronto it is more an opportunity to try some of the finest restaurants around town with world renowned chefs in attendance.

Buffalo attracts huge crowds and there are over 60 food venues participating from chain restaurants to food trucks. At both you buy tickets. In Buffalo we only spent $35 US. Servings are much smaller so you can try more.

Click here to check out all the deliciousness like Buffalo chicken wing soup, grilled sea salt jalapenos, The Cheesus, tacos, curries, basically you name it.

We didn't get photos of the coconut shrimp that we started with nor the salted caramel sorbet or cheesecake we finished with.

Rusty Rib Taco - delicious!

Grilled veggie and flank steak kabob

No photo of my egg roll here but John had the chicken satay with peanut sauce.

Bacon wrapped jalapenos.

The best!!! Joe's Crab Shack cluster of crab!!!!

Least favourite - General Tao's chicken, too sweet and the chicken was rather dry.

From here we drove to Rochester, about an hour away. The plan was to find as many murals as we could using their website. We parked and checked in and then went exploring until we were caught in a downpour.

For dinner we decided to eat at the hotel, Hilton Garden Inn.

Sunday we did some sightseeing, Eastman Museum and murals. We then headed for a very late lunch at JOE'S CRAB SHACK!! We always find one if we can in the States.

Monday we found more murals and the Vietnam Memorial. We made a stop in LeRoy to visit the Jell-O Museum.

We then drove to Buffalo to have lunch at the famous Anchor Bar.

After Taste we drove to Rochester NY for two nights. More to come on Rochester.

On Sunday we opted for a late lunch (lupper) and headed to Joe's Crab Shack which we both love!

This is seafood heaven!

Monday we drove home with a stop to visit the Jell-O museum!!

We went  via Buffalo just to stop for wings at the Anchor Bar. This table ordered the large platter and I snuck a photo.

Tuesday was our shop the grocery bargains and check out a gluten free bakery on Bloor St W. It was a hot and steamy day so we hurried home with our groceries and didn't stop anywhere else.

Wednesday I met a blogger who was visiting Toronto and contacted me. This is her blog.

Her husband came along and we ate at Caplansky's (yes, Beth!!!) I didn't take any photos of the premises only my tuna sandwich. Food was good but a little pricy. $14 for a tuna sandwich with salad.

Thursday was a lazy day at home doing chores and blogging.

Friday we drove to Montreal to visit family.

  11. Joe's Crab Shack-how funny! It's hard to get good seafood in Dallas (yes, even at Joe's), but we really enjoy it when we go down to the gulf. Of course...no lobsters down here! Bacon wrapped jalepenos = YUM!
