Monday Mural

I'm linking up at Monday Mural

April 2021 - Toronto ON

In February I posted the incredible murals at the Collective Arts Brewery in Hamilton. Then in June I featured more murals when we were able to have a drink on their patio.

They have a smaller outlet in Toronto. There are murals inside but since we were in lockdown we didn't go inside.

The outside of the building was transformed into a work of art but mural artist Ola Volo. Ola has painted public art pieces around Toronto and the world.
Click on her name in the label/tag below this post to see more of her local work.

February 2021 - Hamilton ON

Found on our February Hamilton visit.

Can't wait until we can sit in their beer garden! And to show you photos of their cans designed by artists.

It was hard to find information on the murals. I had to do it by hit or miss. If I find more details I will update this post.

Collective Arts and Brewery

Collective Arts fuses the creativity of craft beverages with the inspired talents of artists from around the world. We feature limited-edition works of art on our labels, and we work to make sure the liquid on the inside is as diverse and creative as the artists we profile.

WERC
Jari “Werc” Alvarez was born in Ciudad Juarez, CH, Mexico in 1980, and grew up in El Paso, TX, USA. He is a public artist currently based out of NYC and paints murals throughout the world. His studio-based works have been exhibited in numerous galleries & museums, such as Musée de Aquitaine, MCASD, CAMLA, MOM, and are part of the Getty’s special collections, the Smithsonian American Art Archives and the Cheech Marin Chicano Art Collection. He has been named one of the Top 10 most talented street artists in New York City in recent years and his client list includes Sony Pictures, PANTONE, BVLGARI, Toyota, Google, the San Diego International Airport, amongst many others.

The brewery had also commissioned him to do one in downtown Hamilton that we saw a couple of weeks ago.

I guessed this was Ola Volo because it looked so much like a mural in Yorkville in Toronto. I finally did find this one on her website.

September 2019 - Toronto ON

WOW I managed to get these photos before their official unveiling on September 12-14.

Toronto’s Yorkville Murals aims to be an annual three-day cultural event that celebrates contemporary muralism and public art. Through the creation of artistic murals inside the courtyard of 99 Yorkville Ave, and the implementation of cultural activations such as artist installations and movie screenings, this project focuses on making Yorkville a landmark in Toronto for contemporary muralism and an ultimate tourist destination.

Quotes taken from artists' websites.

“Getso is a world renown graffiti artist and designer who has painted all over the world. Currently based in Toronto, Getso generally focuses on traditional graffiti letter structure and colour theory, but also has roots for well over a decade in various forms of muralism.”

Mr. Brainwash

Mr. Brainwash (often written MBW) is a name used by French-born, Los Angeles-based street artist Thierry Guetta. According to the 2010 Banksy-directed film Exit Through the Gift Shop, Guetta was a proprietor of a used clothing store, where he began as a security guard, and amateur videographer who was first introduced to street art by his cousin, the street artist Invader, and who filmed street artists through the 2000s and became an artist in his own right in a matter of weeks after an off-hand suggestion from Banksy.

What is Adam.
“whatisadam (WIA) is a Canadian urban artist based in Montreal. Canadian infused street art.”

“Ola Volo is a Kazakh Canadian artist, best known as a public muralist. Her style blends aspects of Eastern European folk art with a focus on pattern and narrative to depict fantasy scenes.”
