TOUR DAY 8 morning tour with lunch
ITALICS TOUR DESCRIPTION
Breakfast at your hotel. Today you will discover Hue, the former imperial capital of Vietnam from 1802 to 1945. You will start your city tour with the ancient walled citadel, including the former Imperial Palace, where ruins of the city’s regal past can still be seen. Created in the 19th century, the Imperial City was modeled on the Forbidden City in Beijing and holds many palaces and temples inside its giant walls. You will then visit the Dong Ba market to learn about the local products and specialties of Hue. You might get some great deals at the local Dong Ba market, especially if you are interested in a traditional Vietnamese conical hat.
After lunch at a local restaurant, you will visit the majestic royal tomb of King Tu Duc, one of the most magnificent mausoleums in Vietnam located along the Perfume River.
Dinner free and overnight in Hue. (Breakfast-Lunch)
RAIN!
Breakfast. Every hotel had an egg and noodle station along with a variety of cuisines. They would cook you eggs to your liking, fried, poached, scrambled or in an omelette.
There were pastries, croissants, fruits, jams, cereals, dumplings. curries, rice, noodles, cold cuts, cheeses, salads, you name it! Many Asians had soup for breakfast. John did it one morning.
We dress for rain and the guide Miss Van took us to the market, it was only spitting at this point.
Bus #2.
The "fake money" that people might buy in a market usually refers to spirit money (also known as "hell money" or "heaven money"), which is burned as an offering for the deceased in traditional ancestor veneration practices. It is intended for use in the afterlife and not for illegal circulation as real currency.
I don't need to tell you what someone said this looked like!
Mainly shrimp.
This market was immense, with three floors and escalators.
One of the Chatty Cathies, breathlessly said "oh, it was so overwhelming! I kept smiling and saying hello to people so they started following me trying to make me buy stuff".
And then the skies opened as we approached the Imperial City (The Citadel).
The Imperial City or Imperial Palace also known as Đại Nội, is a royal enclosure within the walled city of Huế, the former imperial capital of Vietnam during the Nguyễn dynasty. It contains the palaces that housed the imperial family, as well as shrines, gardens, and offices for mandarins.
Oh, Pierre is missing? Again! Let's do a group photo while Van looks for him!
A few are missing, huddled out of the rain.
Love this photo that John took!
I should have removed John's finger!
We sheltered from the rain as Van arranged for a e-cart for John so he didn't have to walk.
Then she had to take Maholo Man back to the hotel because he didn't feel well...
We'll go into this building later.
Gee! A gift shop!!
Frankly we are all wet and miserable by now as we head to lunch. This was one of the best lunches.
Delicious!
As we wait for the bus, a vote is taking place and the majority of us said we wanted to skip the dead guy's tomb and go back to the hotel so we were dropped off. I think about 7 went on to the tomb.
We had a nap and then did dinner in the hotel. We really had wanted to go out and explore more, but the rain never let up.
