TOUR DAY 26 TRANSIT

ITALICS TOUR DESCRIPTION
After breakfast, you will be met in the lobby of your hotel and transferred to the airport in Phuket for your flight to Bangkok.
Please refer to the letter you received upon arrival in Bangkok to verify the pick-up time and location (usually 4 hours prior to the flight departure time).
Upon arrival at the airport in Bangkok, take the shuttle to the hotel. The meeting point for the shuttle is on the second floor of the Arrival Hall, at Gate #5 (close to the Information counter). Look for representatives holding a sign with “Amaranth Suvarnabhumi Hotel” on it. If you have difficulty finding the hotel representative, please call 02-3159393. Upon check-in at the hotel, arrange with the hotel’s reception your airport transfer for your departure. The rest of the day is free to relax or to explore Bangkok one last time. (Breakfast)

We had a plan for today as we had to be out of our rooms by 12:30, woo hoo, the hotel had given us a thirty minute late check-out. Our flight was scheduled for 21:20 with hotel departure at 17:20.
After breakfast we headed to the pool until 11. Then shower and finish packing.
Breakfast outside.

Next up - pedicures. 300 baht each.
It isn't like a pedicure at home, it is mainly toenails.

Our plan was to go back to the Hotel Indigo bar for lunch, however it was closed as they were doing major tree trimming. So we tried the Novotel, but the restaurant looked like a cafeteria and we did sit down in their lobby bar but the bartender totally ignored us so we left.
We went back across the street to a tapas place we had spotted, Bon Pan Asian Tapas.
We enjoyed everything except the pork belly (my choice) which was too fatty and not crispy enough.

OMG these potatoes were delicious!

It was too hot so we headed back to the hotel for our ride. We thought it was interesting that none of the people we had arrived with were around. It seems they were given earlier flights which we would have appreciated.
Our driver arrived an hour early so we headed to the airport, at least it would be cooler there and there were more options plus we could use a lounge pass.
Some sights on the way. BTW we saw our first accident on the way to the airport, a car and a scooter, we commented that it is surprising there aren't more!!
Have I mentioned that they drive on the "wrong" side of the road in Thailand?

Thailand drives on the left due to strong British influence during its 19th-century modernization, with British engineers and advisors shaping infrastructure like railways and early road systems, despite Thailand never being a formal British colony. This established a left-hand traffic rule, mirroring Britain, even as neighboring countries adopted the French/American right-hand system, making Thailand unique in mainland Southeast Asia.

We got to the airport by 5:30 and the gates weren't open, in fact VietJet stated they only opened 45 minutes prior to (9:30 PM) departure. So why did the tour documentation state 4 hours?? and we were picked up an extra hour early???
Then we saw that the 9:30 was already delayed (it hadn't even left Bangkok at this point). I was also the last flight of the day... We could hear other Bangkok flights being delayed.
So we made a management decision and I asked where the airline offices were. First we went to VietJet to see if we could get on an earlier flight, no, they didn't have an earlier. Next airline didn't go the the international airport. Thai airlines, no problem, we got tickets for 3,000 baht each.
I had researched earlier in the week for earlier flights and they were much more expensive than this. Interesting. And there gate was already open so we could ditch our luggage. Yes, our luggage is carry on size, but unlike most people, we can't be bothered dragging them through airports. Plus, most airlines don't control carry on as they should. We've seen people with three carry on bags, moaning about not enough overhead room.

We found the lounge, which was close to our gate.
This lounge only did cocktails, our Siam mojito, as recommended.

We arrived in Bangkok a little late, but managed to get to the hotel shuttle pick up right at 11 PM, the agent called the driver who ran back in and scurried us to the van! It was a thirty minute drive to the hotel which was lovely but we never got to enjoy it. They also wanted to provide breakfast boxes as our pick up time was 4:30 AM. We declined as we would eat at the airport.
