Extra Butter

Roncesvalles Ave. Toronto ON

John had physio on Sunday and said it was freezing out then spent the weekend enjoying the Masters.
Other than that it was a quiet weekend and week.

Monday John did a very expensive run to Costco. However we had received our rebate cheque from the government which offset the Costco cost.
The (not mine) idiot premier is buying votes for June's election by scrapping license plate stickers ($120 a year). Where is the money to come from for health care? These rebates cost the government $1.1 billion a year!!
With an Ontario election on the horizon, the licence plate rebate is just one of dozens of announcements, re-announcements, promotions and promises that Ford has made in recent weeks on such things as gas prices, road tolls and massive spending and infrastructure programs across the province. All are aimed at one thing — winning votes on June 2!

Then we waited for the delivery of the washer/dryer.

I was having nightmares beforehand, that I wouldn't be able to reach the dryer controls, but the panel for both is in the middle.

If you want to know what we bought here is a YouTube video.

One slight problem, according to the installers we have to buy the steam kit ourselves. Eh, no, it comes with the machine. So John is now dealing with the salesman who says call the service desk who says "would be faster if he called LG Canada himself", calls LG Canada and has a frustrating useless 30 minute conversation. Hangs up, answers online survey (phone message) with a resounding "NO not pleased". Whereby he immediately gets a call for LG Alabama (who asks "are you in the state of Canada?")?!?!? Alabama was to get back in 24 hours with a solution (their aim is a happy customer) that would have been Thursday...still waiting...

I was afraid to try it out after they installed it as it has so many doo dads, including wi-fi.

I did a small load on Tuesday and it was great. It beeps like an ice cream truck when a cycle is completed, which makes us laugh.
After some other chores we decided on popcorn and movies.

The rest of the week passed uneventfully, catching up on laundry. The new machines are taller and deeper than the old ones. Therefore I can't put things on top or on the door.
RIP

The solution? Thanks to Amazon, this hangs over the pantry door.

I also got two more lazy Susans, one for the fridge and the other for the cupboard with the oils and vinegars.

Other than that it was life as usual.

Our windows were cleaned!!

Yes, he swung over the balcony.

COOKING

Saturday roast pork, roast potatoes, Brussels sprouts
Sunday lamb chops, mashed cauliflower and potatoes, carrots
Monday chicken nachos with rotisserie chicken
Tuesday ham, broccoli potato au gratin
Wednesday chicken pot pie
Thursday broccoli and ham quiche
Friday steak, loaded baked potato oven roasted mushrooms.

We have a glut of broccoli and broccolini as John bought a Costco bag of each.

WATCHING

We watched The Forever Purge, a 2021 American dystopian action horror film, mindless fun.

I watched Room 2806: The Accusation. This 2020 docuseries follows the 2011 sexual assault case involving French politician Dominique Strauss-Kahn at the height of his career.
I knew nothing about this man, referred to as DSK. He was head of the IMF and a candidate for president of France.

Then I watched Jimmy Savile: A British Horror Story, a two-part Netflix documentary series released in April 2022. It looks at the life and career of the British television personality Jimmy Savile, his history of committing sexual abuse, and the scandal that occurred after his death in 2011, when numerous complaints were raised about his behaviour.
I knew his name but nothing about him. He came across as a total creep from the beginning to me. He hobnobbed with all the Royal Family who looked to him for advice on speeches and even looked to him for recommendations on how they should handle to Lockerbie crash.

We started watching The Hobbit series again.

Anatomy of a Scandal is a British anthology drama miniseries that we watched thinking that it was A Very British Scandal! We are enjoying it anyway.

READING

I finished Last Girl Ghosted which started out strong but then veered into the weeds.  The use of the second person was confusing as I had to keep reminding myself who "you" was. Still a good read about the terrors of online dating apps. There are useless mentions of the news, a virus spreading, borders closed, Australian wild fires.

  1. Yay on the new washer and dryer -- and hope all will be sorted out soon. Our new(ish) washer also plays a little tune when the wash is done. Your dinners look yummy. And thanks for the streaming/movie/series report -- I'll like give a couple of them a try.

    1. We were latecomers to Netflix (pandemic). Cable is part of our condo package but we record anything that we watch on there as the commercials are ridiculous. We have Prime with our Amazon.

  3. So you too have the stench of a desperate politician.

The washer dryer stack looks great. They are very large and are quite expensive. Maybe see you out quality. I turned the end of cycle sound off on our unit but I missed it and so turned it back on.

  4. Your menu this week looks good. That wondow washer swung over the balcony? Wow. Those guys are fearless.
I understand you being happy the dryer controls are in the middle. I am only 5'2" and verything seems out of my reach.

Ugh, I'm guessing your politians are as bad as ours here. We could swap stories and we'd each say, wait - hold my beer.

  6. Ford has the smile of a used car salesman.

Wait... That's an insult to used car salesmen.

  7. Congrats on your new washer and dryer. I like how they have the control panel in the middle. I hope the steam kit comes soon. It's frustrating to have parts missing and then having to hunt them down. The organizer over the pantry door looks great. Thank you for your weekend coffee share.

  8. We have two elections coming this year so there are plenty of promises being made right about now!

    Have a great week!

  9. Yay on the new washer and dryer! We just got one ourselves a few months ago after our former one started going bad.

  10. Oh my, the frustration you must feel about the election. Overwhelming, I think.

A new washer and dryer sounds delightful. I can't remember when we got our last of these. Twenty years ago? It probably won't be long now.

A rewatch of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings is coming soon.
