Not My Cup of Tea

November 2016 - Toronto ON

Nothing exciting this week, other than life's administriva, appointments, hair cut, license sticker renewal etc.

We were supposed to have friends in for dinner on Saturday but they had a family emergency and had to cancel.

Good weekly shopping trip and lunch with my BFF.

Went to see Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, was pretty good.

Never noticed this vending machine in the lobby of the theatre before, cute.
I'm afraid I'm "one of those people" who can't stand to hear paper rustling when I'm at the movies are theatre!

The weather was so amazing this week that John golfed twice.

Taken from the 53rd floor of the Scotia Tower downtown, looking east.

DINNER
Saturday - salmon, quinoa and broccoli
Sunday - lamb shanks
Monday - fish and chips
Tuesday - curry chicken
Wednesday - liver, mashed potatoes sauteed cabbage and onions
Thursday - steak baked potato and broccoli
Friday - spaghetti and homemade meat sauce

BOOKS

I kept wondering why the storyline for You seemed familiar, to the point that I commented on it to my BFF. I now realize that You is the first book of the series Hidden Bodies which I had read a few months ago.
Finished The Drowning Girls which was hard to put down.
Liz McGinnis never imagined herself living in a luxurious gated community like The Palms. Ever since she and her family moved in, she's felt like an outsider amongst the Stepford-like wives and their obnoxiously spoiled children. Still, she's determined to make it work―if not for herself, then for her husband, Phil, who landed them this lavish home in the first place, and for her daughter, Danielle, who's about to enter high school.
Also finished Us, enjoyed it, but memorable, no.
Douglas Petersen may be mild-mannered, but behind his reserve lies a sense of humor that, against all odds, seduces beautiful Connie into a second date and eventually into marriage. Now, almost three decades after their relationship first blossomed in London, they live more or less happily in the suburbs with their moody seventeen-year-old son, Albie; then Connie tells him she thinks she wants a divorce.
The timing couldn’t be worse. Hoping to encourage her son’s artistic interests, Connie has planned a month-long tour of European capitals, a chance to experience the world’s greatest works of art as a family, and she can’t bring herself to cancel. And maybe going ahead with the original plan is for the best anyway. Douglas is privately convinced that this landmark trip will rekindle the romance in the marriage and might even help him bond with Albie.
Narrated from Douglas’s endearingly honest, slyly witty, and at times achingly optimistic point of view, Us is the story of a man trying to rescue his relationship with the woman he loves and learning how to get closer to a son who’s always felt like a stranger.

Almost finished After I Do, mainly because I am skimming it. Not my cup of tea.
I simply couldn't like Lauren and Ryan barely appears. Looking at all the 5 star reviews on Goodreads, I guess I'm just too cynical.
From the author of Forever, Interrupted comes a breathtaking new novel about modern marriage, the depth of family ties, and the year that one remarkable heroine spends exploring both.
When Lauren and Ryan’s marriage reaches the breaking point, they come up with an unconventional plan. They decide to take a year off in the hopes of finding a way to fall in love again. One year apart, and only one rule: they cannot contact each other. Aside from that, anything goes.

  1. I'm trying to identify the town in your header picture. I know I've been there! It's on the Rhine River in Germany ... right?
I always enjoy your photos. Like you, I take pictures of anything and everything that captures my fancy. Your photo of the colorful snacks is a great example of focusing on the delights we see everywhere if we stop to look.

  2. We were at a children's play once where the kid sitting next to me spent 20 minutes trying to open a bag of gummy bears. I mean I get that it was a play for kids and I was expecting some noise but still! I wanted to just reach over and take the bag from him since his parents on the other side of him weren't going to help. I want to see the new Jack Reacher! I really enjoyed the first one and this one looks good too.

  3. People are so rude in theaters these days that we only go in the middle of the day. We actually have taken a day off if it's one we want to see. We bought a 60 inch TV so we could enjoy movie experiences at home.
I did not know the latest Jack Reacher movie was out, will add it to my list.
Also, the book series you mentioned sounds very good, something I would enjoy. I'm glad you highlighte those books,

  6. I hear you about noises in the movie theatre which is a big reason I don't go any more. Shaking tubs of popcorn, rattling ice in cups, cell phones, yammering, who needs it. But then again I can't remember the last time I was excited about a good movie either. Am hoping there's something to see this winter. Great shot from the 53rd floor.

  7. I don't like any noise while watching a movie. It's hard to hear what's being said if people are talking or making noise.
