Saturday Snapshot

August 2014 - Charlottetown Prince Edward Island

While we were wandering around town and admiring City Hall, I noticed a family who appeared to be on a mission. I eavesdropped on their animated conversation near City Hall and realized they were on a scavenger hunt and had found their last clue. Not to be outdone, we downloaded the clues and started our own "mouse" hunt.

Eckhart the mouse, is the main character in a charming Island storybook written by David Weale and illustrated by Dale McNevin.

We were at clue 9 when we started.

COWS and can you see the cannon with our mouse?

Finally! The only clue I found first!!!

So this clue - we both spotted at the same time!

He's on the windowsill hidden by the pelican.

By far this was the hardest to find as we were fixated on the Macdonald reference.

He's sitting on the post to the far left.

In researching this post I also discovered that trouble began when St. Dunstan's Basilica ordered that the mouse which had been placed on church property be removed. No rodents allowed! You can read more about it here: Fictional mouse banished from church grounds. As David Weale explains in this article: "Eckhart the mouse is named after one of the great Roman Catholic mystics of the medieval age, Meister Eckhart, who was excommunicated by the church for his views," he said. "Now it's happened again. His little namesake has been excommunicated." So, there you have it. The Island's famous little Eckhart, the first excommunicated mouse!

He's behind the tour bus, he has lots and lots of visitors to watch when a cruise ship is in port.
