It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

It's Monday! What are you reading? is hosted by Sheila at Book Journey. For this meme, bloggers post what they finished last week, what they're currently reading, and what they plan to start this week.

As I mentioned when I posted last (Nov 19) life has been hectic and I have promised an update. Last Monday I wrote about the fact that we were embarking on the ultimate road trip. At the end of a week of road travel we are settled in Sedona AZ for a week.
I had thought I would read more on the trip but there were so many things to see along the way that I spent my time taking photos.

FINISHED:
The World Without You

I loved this book. It felt like it was written by a woman which makes it even more interesting. It takes place over a long weekend as the family gathers. Like most families it is complicated as everyone lives their own lives separated by distance. They have their problems bout you just identify with all of them immediately and get seduced by their separate stories.
It was a book that I didn't want it to end.

Friend Of The Devil (Inspector Banks, #17)

Synopsis from Goodreads:
DI Annie Cabbot is on loan to another area (and is not working with her colleague, Chief Inspector Alan Banks), and finds herself saddled with a difficult case. A woman's body is found in a wheelchair by the sea. Her throat has been ripped open. At the same time, a teenage girl has been raped and murdered after an alcohol-fuelled night out. DCI Banks is dealing with another case. The two detectives experience very dissimilar results: Banks is faced with a multiplicity of suspects, while Annie Cabbot makes absolutely no progress in her case. Those familiar with detective fiction won't be surprised to learn that the various cases turn out to be interrelated, and when the duo begin to make considerable inroads into the mysteries, they find that aspects of their own pasts are coming back to haunt them. And a burning question becomes ever more pertinent: just how many killers are involved in these cases?

This is number 17 in the Inspector Banks series and as always I get hooked. I read this book sporadically as we were driving south.  There's not too much to say other than it is another attention grabbing  series of murders that have their history in a previous book which may make it difficult if you hadn't read the previous one.
I love the musical references to Banks' taste and often end up googling the artist and songs. The title of the book is a Grateful Dead song.

STARTED THIS WEEK:

Headhunters

Synopsis from Goodreads:
Roger Brown is a corporate headhunter, and he’s a master of his profession. But one career simply can’t support his luxurious lifestyle and his wife’s fledgling art gallery. At an art opening one night he meets Clas Greve, who is not only the perfect candidate for a major CEO job, but also, perhaps, the answer to his financial woes: Greve just so happens to mention that he owns a priceless Peter Paul Rubens painting that’s been lost since World War II—and Roger Brown just so happens to dabble in art theft. But when he breaks into Greve’s apartment, he finds more than just the painting. And Clas Greve may turn out to be the worst thing that’s ever happened to Roger Brown.

Loving it!
