I'm posting at Sepia Saturday today.

Today's theme is:

In looking through old family photos none of the men seem to have much facial hair. One of my grand uncles, Alec, did sport a mustache as long as I knew him.


My husband, John has had facial hair for most of the time I have known him. Mustaches, goatees and beards over the years.

I'm paying tribute to some heroes. Thank goodness for heroes as we end a horrible week in history here in Canada.

A touching editorial cartoon from Bruce MacKinnon was published this week in the Chronicle Herald. Rest in peace Cpl. Nathan Cirillo. 

I went to Queen's Park this week and took this photo of the flags at half mast outside the Ontario Legislature.

I went in search of the police and firefighters' memorials.

I thought, oh simple, but when I went to my photos I realized I didn't have an updated picture of my kitchen. So first I had to clean up, then I snapped these with my phone.


 I love my kitchen, which is funny since I didn't like it when we were viewing this condo two years ago. I had thought I wanted open concept but now realize I much prefer having it enclosed with two doors.
This means I can watch my own TV shows (HGTV, Food Network and Gusto) while John watches whatever in the living room. I love to cook so I spend many hours in my little sanctuary.

I have great wide counters and love that I can leave my mixer out.
Behind that door is my washer and dryer.
The stove is new - bought in May. I couldn't stand the one that the previous owners had left, it was just grimy and worn out.  The numbers on the knobs had worn off.

The lighting is on our list of TO DO but can wait for a while.

The picture on the laundry room door is new, bought in August in Quebec.

I hate the new water cooler bottles that are now coloured green!! They used to be clear coloured.

We bought this piece of furniture online and it is fantastic. I keep my breadmaker and crockpot in it and simply place them on top when I want to use them.

Point Prim PEI

I found a description at the Point Prim Lighthouse site.


Gar Gillis is the creator of Hannah’s Bottle Village. He was inspired by Mount Carmel, the bottle village up west. He named it Hannah’s Bottle Village and he said that his Uncle Linwood had a summer cottage on PEI and his granddaughter, Hannah, spent a lot of time on the island, so he named it after her. Actually, each building in the bottle village is named after a relative. The first building built was the church. It is named after youngest grandson, Noah. 

There is no admission charge, but donations are being collected for the IWK children’s hospital in Halifax.

The last thing to be built was the gate, named after step granddaughter Peyton.

The second building to rise was the Sydney’s General Store, named after granddaughter, Sydney.  

The third building created was the school house dubbed Cameron Allan Davies Schoolhouse after oldest grandson.

The fourth building to be built was the imitation “Annalee home”.

Number six is JR’s Tea Room, named after late Mom, Jesse Ross, who apparently always had the teapot on.

The fifth building was named after his Dad and former lighthouse keeper, Norman Gillis.
