Prince Edward Island - 1990

As I was planning our little trip to Charlottetown PEI, I realized I had posted our 2014 visit but never our 1990.

I know we went in 1990 because we had never been there and we also knew we were moving to Toronto from Montreal, so it would be a longer trip from Toronto.

This is mainly a photo (pre-digital) dump as there is little I remember other than the amazing food!!

Every Saturday afternoon during the summer months less than a dozen Anglicans gather in St. Alban's Anglican Church in Souris for services. This Saturday the services were led by Richard Ball, a lay minister. The church, erected in 1980 to serve approximately 70 parishioners  sits near site of the original church adjacent to Church Street in the town and close to the edge of a cliff bordering Colville Bay. The first church was built in 1895 under the leadership of Rev. E.T. Woollard. Before that, services were held in a private home. It was closed in 1919 and later demolished. The land was sold for $300 together with part of the churchyard after the Second World War.

SUMMERSIDE

Woodleigh Replicas was a park of miniatures situated in the rural community of Burlington outside Kensington, Prince Edward Island on a 30-acre site. The visitor attraction opened in 1957 and closed in May 2008.

What a crazy day it was to drive around PEI. There were buckets of rain and then blue sky. The rain roamed about all day.



After a quick breakfast at Tim Horton's we did some of the Points East drive from Charlottetown to Montague.
First stop was Point Prim in the sunshine.

Then a stop at a bottle village where donations went to the Children's Hospital.

Then the skies opened!

 Next stop was Point Bear and the mosquitoes were out in full force!

We stepped out into the torrential downpour at Woods Island.

Watching the North Humberland  ferry come in from  Caribou Nova Scotia.

Along the banks of the Montague River, stands a historic home that was built over 150 years ago. This early circa 1850, two story building has been connected with the first commercial history of Montague, being known as one of the earliest general stores first operated in the town.

Restoration transformed the building into a quaint Restaurant in 1995. This family owned and operated restaurant has won awards such as:
The PEI Shellfish Festival award for our outstanding seafood chowder.

We decided that we would go to Cavendish to Green Gables after lunch as it was getting late.

French River - we drove past this and made a U-turn back as did the two bikers in front of us. Absolutely stunning view and the light was perfect AND not raining!!

Malpeque - home of the oyster Malpeques have taken the world by storm in the past twenty years, and now rival Bluepoints as most common restaurant oyster, partly because they are affordable.

A stop at the PEI Brewing Company to get a glass to add to our collection.

This is easily the most relaxed, pleasant brewery we have visited.

Dinner was at the Merchant Man snow crab legs and lobster - absolutely delicious!!!!
