NICKEL Sudbury ON

P.S. the couple we met last week at Little Canada had a personal relationship with the Big Nickel!! E was from Sudbury and the creator was her uncle.
The Big Nickel, as the world's only numismatic coin park, also featured coin monuments other than the 1951 nickel. Some of these coin monuments were the $20 gold coin monument (featuring the Royal Coat of Arms of Canada), the Kennedy half-dollar coin memorial (featuring an eternal flame), the fantasy copper (Canadian one cent 1965) penny, and the Lincoln coin memorial (1965 American penny). There is no public record of the dismantling or current location of these other numismatic monuments, though pictures still exist.

For the letter of the week for this round I am going to go with all things TTC, Toronto Transit Corporation.

Starts with "N"

North York Centre opened in 1987 in what was then the City of North York as an infill station to the Yonge–University line.

This station was added by excavating alongside the existing tracks, on a level section of route provided for this purpose when the line was built. The view across the tracks between platforms is not as open as most stations, as the solid concrete wall had to retain its load-bearing strength, and smaller openings were cut.

The platform at North York Centre features Nicholas Graven's "North York Heritage Murals", a set of mosaics depicting life in the historic villages that later came to comprise that city. Unfortunately, the latter-day construction of the station around the existing tracks left the central concrete wall in place. The narrow gaps in this wall make it difficult to get a good view of the murals from opposite sides of the tracks.
Top of the North Hill—1850s on the northbound platform (surtitled with the historic place names “Don Mills, Flynntown, L'AmoreauxLansing, Milneford, Newtonbrook, Oriole, O’Sullivan’s Corners, Willowdale”).

Traffic at Yonge and Sheppard—1860s on the southbound platform (surtitled with the historic place names “Downsview, Dublin, Eglinton, Elia, Emery, Fairbank, Fisherville, Humber Summit, Kaiserville, York Mills, Weston”).

NEAR

When visiting Toronto you can see three tourist attractions in one block, they are so near to each other. And if you are at a convention you are still near as you are on the same block!

CN Tower and Aquarium

Convention Centre, Aquarium, CN Tower and Rogers (Skydome) Centre, can't get much nearer than that!
