Now that we are home, and not stepping foot into the US while that tRump Dumpster FOTUS (felon of the United States) is ruining that country, I'm going to talk about Buying Canadian.
Canadian milk differs from US milk due to regulations around growth hormones and stricter quality standards, with Canadian milk being free of antibiotics and artificial growth hormones (rBST), unlike in the US where the use of rBST is permitted
Canada: Banned the use of recombinant bovine somatotropin (rBST), a synthetic growth hormone, because it is not needed and it can negatively impact cow health. Milk produced and sold in Canada is guaranteed to be rbST-free.
United States: The use of rBST is permitted, though it is optional for farmers to use.
Antibiotics:
Canada: Canadian milk and dairy products are free of antibiotics.
United States: The rules around antibiotic use in dairy farms can vary.
Milk Quality and Regulations:
Canada:
Has strict dairy farming standards and high-quality standards for milk, with every batch of milk tested to ensure it meets those standards. Dairy Farmers of Canada highlights the commitment of Canadian farmers to 100% Canadian milk, free of antibiotics and produced without artificial growth hormones.
United States:
Has a system of tariff rate quotas and tariffs that are different from Canada's.
Somatic Cell Count (SCC):
Canadian milk has a lower maximum Somatic Cell Count (SCC) than the US standard.
Farm Structures and Trade:
Canada:
Features a supply management system that ensures production aligns with demand and prices cover production costs, with many farms being family-owned. Canadian dairy farms prioritize sustainability and local market balance, supported by strict import regulations and production quotas.

These on/off again tariffs are costing companies a lot of money, on both sides of the border.
BTW on our way back to Canada, we heard ads on (American) radio, suggesting that listeners buy their new cars now, before the tariffs.
A BIG RANT!
Arlington Cemetery website drops links for Black, Hispanic, and women veterans. The website for Arlington National Cemetery "unpublished" links to lists of notable graves, walking tours and educational material pertaining to Black, Hispanic and women veterans, as well as some Medal of Honor recipients.
AND HERE IN CANADA
Mark Carney is sworn in as prime minister replacing resigning PM Trudeau.
We have this POS conservative.

...Elbows Up!
ReplyDeleteSadly our dairy farms have gone the way of the US, without the milk additives, and you've described how small farmers can be protected without huge taxpayer expenditure.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good and just fight.
