Boycott US V3.0

Just more of my random rants and raves since Felon47 took office, supposedly.

SUPERBOWL

An Ontario commercial aired during the Super Bowl, highlighting contributions to the USA.

Donald Trump posting a video of himself basking in cheers at the #SuperBowl while sharing another of Taylor Swift being booed is peak narcissism. A grown man, nearly an octogenarian, seeking validation like a 10-year-old on the playground. Pathetic. But true to form.

TRUMP HIJACKS SUPER BOWL DECORUM
After hearing the boos from them all
Donald Trump may feel bitter and small
..made his quick retreat
..before the Final Defeat
And wouldn’t give the Eagles a call.

TARIFFS

Let's start with a smile. A Toronto strip joint on Yonge St has this sign.

Trump signed proclamations on Monday reinstating a 25% tariff on steel imports and increasing tariffs on aluminum imports to 25%, hitting leading suppliers to the U.S.

While the impact of these tariffs is yet to be determined, these are the facts on where and from whom the U.S. imports its steel and aluminum.

CBS News video (also mentions the penny)
We, Canada, got rid of the penny in 2013 and nobody has missed it!

I'm not even going to make any comments on this moron, nepo baby.
Robert Kennedy, ex heroin addict, current steroid user, with no medical experience will attempt to defy all odds and find the cause of autism that has eluded thousands of specialized doctors and researchers for decades.

GROCERIES

Check the Label is a new app created by Punchcard Systems that helps Canadians quickly identify, select, and purchase Canadian-made products. Sam Jenkins, managing partner at Punchcard Systems, told us that the company wanted to help Canadians make informed purchasing decisions.
"Supporting Canadian-made products isn't just about patriotism — it's about building stronger communities and a more resilient economy," he said.

I saw this quote on the FB Made in Canada page "Shopping at Costco. Not a single thing from the Excited Mistakes."

A friend paid $5.80 CAD (4.05 USD) for 18 this week.
An Australian friend said "We have a shortage here because of bird flu, with so many laying hens and chicks being destroyed to curtail the flu. This has made them in short supply and expensive, however, nothing like those prices, which works out to AU$22. For 18 free range eggs, we pay around AU$10, US6.50. Barn laid are cheaper and caged laid cheaper still".

US restaurants are adding a surcharge for eggs, I saw one restaurant state $2 for 1 egg, $4 for 2 eggs!
Letty's menu - although we ate there and didn't notice it applied to the bill.

Egg prices when I shopped at Von's on Feb 13 in LV.

Canada just signed a trade deal with Ecuador so the orange juice options will increase now Florida Oranges aren't being bought.
Oasis is a Canadian brand in the mean time and Minute Maid is bottled here using
Brazilian oranges.

We have to be careful about boycotting companies like McDonald's, in Canada they use Canadian potatoes and beef, do we want to punish our own farmers?
This also applies to companies like Starbucks, our locations are Canadian franchises, renting Canadian properties and providing Canadian jobs. Also I can't live without my strawberry frappacino LOL!
The same goes for Netflix, they have production studios in Toronto and Vancouver employing hundreds of Canadians. Many movies are filmed in Canada using locations as stand-ins for American cities. The Actors' Union has strict rules about hiring Canadians in productions.
A&W Canada is NOT a US corporation. It has been independent of the US operation for decades, and is in fact fully Canadian owned and operated. All of their products are Canadian.
Costco is a US corporation. However, Costco has refused to cancel its diversity strategy in both Canada and the USA, and remains one of the top paying retail organizations in the market. They also source regionally as much as possible, making them a major purchaser of Canadian-sourced products for our market. They also purchase significant product stock from independent and small startups in Canada.

Love these giant pro-Canada ads for Black Diamond Cheese, which started appearing over the weekend.

TRAVEL
More thoughts
Canadians are cancelling their cruises that use American dollars on board and/or depart from Florida or LA.
They are also cancelling their US vacations and instead going to the Maritimes or out west.
I also saw a Snowbirds group discussing where they will travel in future.
I have unsubscribed from American travel companies' emails (sales pitches) as I have plenty of Canadian (or European) companies to support. SHOUTOUT to Wingbuddy and Tour Radar.
Sorry to all the American companies we have used in the past, you won't be seeing our money.
Gate 1 Travel (4-5 times), Avalon River Cruise (4-5 times).
Canadians are noting that the US $ and Euro are pretty close in exchange for the $CAD so are opting to go to Europe instead.

MEANWHILE IN CANADA

Buying that special cheese or case of beer from another province isn’t necessarily as simple as it sounds.
Depending on where you live in Canada, rules, standards or regulations may exist that mean the product could cost you more money or be subject to certain limits.
As Canada braces for the fallout from potential U.S. tariffs, Canadian federal, territorial and provincial officials are looking to reduce trade barriers.
While tariff worries have been top of mind for many, a patchwork of rules across provinces and territories is already affecting everyday Canadians.
Experts say the trade barriers between provinces and territories may not only be harming businesses, they also may be hurting consumers who have fewer choices and face higher prices.
“Forget about American competition,” Moshe Lander, senior lecturer in economics at Concordia University in Montreal, said in a video interview with CTVNews.ca on Monday.
“Any time that there’s an interprovincial barrier, whatever product is being barriered, you’re paying more for it. The stronger that barrier is, the more of those barriers that exist, the more you’re paying because each one of those barriers comes with a cost, financial or otherwise.”

POLITICIANS AND ELECTIONS

We have the same problems with our politicians. We will be having federal elections shortly for a new prime minister. We have a tRump wanna be Conservative running.

Latest Liberal ad "The Price" targets Poilievre "service cuts".

The only people Poilievre will mingle with are rich donors. It's like he doesn't want to associate with the great unwashed he professes to support.
This clown was complaining about $2,000 (Mark Carney) shoes, but charges $1,750 for a ticket for useless event.
Go figure that one out.

And in Ontario we have a POS DoFo, conservative Doug Ford who just called an election.

Reminder: despite his current bluster about tariffs and keeping Ontario strong, Doug Ford is a die-hard Trump supporter. Imagine what he will do with another four years, inspired by Trump? He has already warned of "hard choices".

"Doug Ford should not spend any time focusing on building a tunnel under the 401. He should complete the existing transit projects that have already been identified as necessary to sustain Toronto’s current size. He should build out the hospitals, long-term-care homes, and housing projects that this province depends on to begin making up lost ground in our standard of living and quality of life.
He should focus on law and order, education, and all the things his government might theoretically have the ability to pull off.
Because a tunnel under the 401? That’s a joke. And I simply refuse to accept he doesn’t know that."
