January 2016 - San Miguel de Allende Mexico

So it turns out, when researching this mural, that one is not supposed to take photos. Well the library was packed with volunteers (of course it was, all the gringos hang out here) and no one stopped us.

This was done by David Leonardo (I know, how did a muralist end up with this name).

To quote Rough Guides "the mesmerizing Sala Quetzal inside La Biblioteca, all four walls smothered with exuberant murals by artist David Leonardo (born in Mexico City in 1963). Inspired by Mesoamerican art, the swirling images are a barrage of colours, peoples and symbols, depicting aspects of Mexican history. The room is open during library hours, but no photos are allowed."

January 2016 - San Miguel de Allende Mexico

We found these murals at the Allende Institute.

The mural, titled Ignacio Allende y La Historia de Mexico was painted by David Leonardo who completed this mural in 1999. Ignacio de Allende, is the figure at the lower right, and Padre Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla is at the podium on the upper left. They are heroes of Mexican independence. After 11 years of fighting Mexico won independence from Spain in 1821. The efforts of these men from San Miguel de Allende and Dolores, both in the state of Guanajuato were central to Mexico’s fight for independence.
