San Diego CA Recap

We really enjoyed this trip to San Diego. In the past we have stayed outside San Diego and used the car for visits. It is much better staying in the city and walking or Ubering around. You get a much better feeling for the city and it is so liberating.

.

We stayed in a Wyndham timeshare, Inn on the Park. It was a large unit with a balcony. Located right across the street from Balboa Park but otherwise a 30 minute walk from Gaslamp and the waterfront.
San Diego was a lot hillier than we remembered!

There was a restaurant across the street which we used twice for takeout.

We treated this week as a real vacation. The last six weeks we were in places we'd visited often and spent more time cooking and eating in.

We also had friends to visit that we really looked forward to.

We had an amazing first day as the weather was unseasonably warm/hot. It cooled off over the weekend and we had rain on the Monday.

Palm Springs and San Diego CA 1996

March 1996 - Palm Springs and San Diego

Our teacher friends, J and M had two weeks for spring break in 1996. Normally it was one week and they would go to Florida. This year they joined us in Palm Springs and San Diego.

This will mainly be a photo dump.
I'm not sure why we didn't fly down together.
We arrived first and then they arrived later in the evening, JS dropping his bottle of duty free on the path!!
The guys dropped off their rental car the next day.
This was the trip someone broke the coffee pot, walked through the patio screen and M lost her watch down the toilet.
And we attempted to drive up to Bob Hope's house only to be stopped by security!
We hit a ferocious sand storm on our way out of town to LA.

Photos are pre-digital!
We stayed at Oasis.

Lots of golf, even the girls played and took lessons at Tommy Jacobs, sadly no more.

Downtown

We took the aerial tramway. Oh yes, M was excited to get her first senior discount and JS walked into the closed door!

We went to the timeshare in Oceanside, outside San Diego.

Balboa Park

The House of Pacific Relations (HPR), located in San Diego ’s Balboa Park , is a consortium of ‘houses’ representing 33 cultures.

It was St. Patrick's Day so the House of Ireland was very busy.

We went to Dakota Girl and were carded, it seems it was the policy of this bar to ensure no discrimination. They still provided "matches: but instead of matches it contained a tiny notebook.
