Pioneer Saloon Goodsprings

We had some time to kill before checking into our condo last Friday so we drove to Goodsprings with the Pioneer Saloon in mind.
We had planned to take our friends with us but they begged off with head colds.
We drove through and there are remnants of the mining town it once was.
This photo was taken at the end of our visit, when we arrived there were many cars parked in front.

The site also states: The Pioneer Saloon built in 1913, by prominent business man George Fayle, will charm and envelope you with its intriguing past. As you cross the threshold from the present to the past, leaving behind the hustle and bustle of the Las Vegas Strip you will quickly come to appreciate this historical landmark. And we definitely did!
We poked around and took some photos.
When we were at the Clark County Museum we learned about the plane crash that killed Carole Lombard, Clark Gable's wife. She was the highest-paid star in Hollywood in the late 1930s. The plane crashed into Mt. Potosi. This photo is from the museum.
Clark Gable had sat in the Pioneer Saloon for three days waiting for his wife's body to be released.
The Saloon has been featured in many movies and TV shows.
And a record cover!
And it was good!
As we are waiting we are watching the monitors and it dawns on us that the bartender is the owner, Noel Sheckells. He is wonderful, full of energy and a love of his saloon. He regaled us with background details on the various TV shows that has featured the saloon.
This cash register is a beauty as it greets you when you enter.
Noel showed me where the bathroom was in the main Saloon and on the way pointed out the bullet holes.
On July 3rd 1915, at the Pioneer Saloon during a poker game, a man named Paul Coski was caught cheating and during a scuffle between him and another man named Joe Armstrong, Mr. Coski was shot several times and killed.
I wandered around outside.
All in all a fun way to spend an afternoon!!
On the way out of town back to the highway.
What was meant to be a quick visit turned into an afternoon outing.
It was lunch time and we thought maybe we would eat here. We dropped into the Saloon but it was packed and also smoking is allowed, not for us.

At this point we decided we would go somewhere else for lunch. John went to the bathroom and I said I would check out the General Store.
I was so excited to see that it also had a bar and food but was non-smoking!!! The bartender urged us to sit and have a beer, they have many beers on tap.
John ordered the ghost burger.
And it was good!
