Linking up with Marg at The Intrepid Reader
Greenwood and Danforth Toronto
SATURDAY
We played it by ear, watching the weather as rain was in the forecast. The rain moved to 5 PM by 9 AM. So we headed out at 11ish to Nathan Philips Square/City Hall for Ono of the largest celebrations of Diwali in Canada. The last few times we've eaten before a festival, but this time we wanted to be able to sample some food for lunch.
Opening time was noon, however it was not very crowded and most stands were just setting up. BMO, Bank of Montreal was the main sponsor.
BMO, pushing their NewStart plan for newcomers to Canada.
Always weddings on a Saturday, we did see a few others.
This was a bargain at $10.
These would be lit later in the evening.
I decided we should go to T&T for duck and the trimmings to take home for dinner. We really liked the onion pancakes.
SUNDAY
I suppose technically, the holiday is tomorrow, Monday, but we always do our big meal on Sunday so we can have Monday to relax and lay around, having turkey sandwiches for breakfast and leftovers for dinner.
We had a big breakfast, potato cakes, sausages, beans and fried eggs.
I made mini pumpkin cheesecakes and spicy coffee granita with whipped cream for Thanksgiving dinner.
Tonight's the night! First game against The Mariners, home game advantage Blue Jays, of the American League Championship Series!!!!
Well, that wasn't what we hoped for! We lost...
MONDAY - THANKSGIVING
Monday Mural here in Toronto - Elicser
It was a lazy day of leftovers. I dissected the turkey and loaded the crockpot and Dutch oven to make soup.
I made a scone recipe that was delicious and only makes four, perfect for us, so I added it to my recipe box.
Some laundry did get done.
I also got a few more travel photos selected and sent to print (Posterjack) for our wall.
OMG I played around with AI to add John and I together in a photo we took in Moscow!!
ORIGINAL
I looked into some travel ideas but didn't find any I liked until I found a South Africa that I thought John would love. I worked with the agent for a day or two to get it the way I wanted.
Printed our boarding passes for the train to Montreal on Friday.
Second game is tonight, the Toronto Maple Leafs graciously moved their home game to the afternoon for the Blue Jays. Not looking good for us, going into Seattle, 0 for 2...........😓😓😓
But the sunset was wonderful!
TUESDAY
SIGNS Tip Top ghost sign on Richmond St.
Window washing will take place next week.
The boiler pump disconnect switch replacement project is completed, whatever the heck that is!!!
The 50 Easiest 3-ingredient Recipes
It was forecasted to be 20 C as John headed out to golf.
I returned a shirt to Winners Scotia Plaza for John and bought a replacement and a tie. Hopefully that fits, the shirt, that is. Yes, it did, nicer material and $10 less!
I went to Longo's as we needed bread and it was on sale $3 instead of $4, 35% cream was also a $1 off, normally I'd wait until Costco, but wanted to use up some stuff for a chowder this week. As well, John's Oikos 2% vanilla (only that one) was on special at $4.69.
I created one large bowl of turkey soup and then combined both the crockpot and Dutch oven into one pot and let continue to simmer.
I did another load of laundry and folded yesterday's immense load!
WEDNESDAY
John golfed and I went to to the Eaton Centre to browse, nothing bought!
After two losses we beat the Mariners in Seattle! There's still hope!
I just noticed their postseason home run jacket that lists the countries represented by the players, coaches, and staff in the Blue Jays clubhouse.
THURSDAY
We chose to have a day at home. I tidied the fridge/freezer as we are away for three nights and travelling on Monday.
We decided on clothes and packed for the weekend as it includes a funeral on Saturday so required dressier selections.
We are narrowing down our travels options for Nov-Dec. I had planned a detailed South Africa trip I thought John would like but it has now become #3. We are deciding between two tours but also deliberating tying them together. We spent most of the day looking at computations.
And We Play Ball tonight! AND JUST LIKE THAT IT IS 2-2!!!!
FRIDAY
We were on the 11:38 train to Montreal. The train was totally packed and we were in different cars. My lunch was salmon, rice and Brussels sprouts along with salad and dessert. Drinks and wine were served.
We arrived at 5:30, 30 minutes late and walked to our hotel on Jeanne Manse and Ste. Catherine St.
A couple of pics as we walked to the hotel.
I had booked a reservation at Wienstein & Gavino's, Italian, as I had promised John that our next meal out would be Italian. It is on Crescent St so we walked over. The map didn't take into account the crazy street construction taking place.
Dinner was mediocre, think slightly upscale Spaghetti Factory. We started with arancini, then John had GF penne Bolognese and I had ravioli with ricotta and spinach. Meh.
SIGH we lost to The Mariners in game 5, 6-2!!!!!!
As John said "je suis pissed off", we are in Montreal after all.
COOKING
It was a week of leftovers. I had bought a lot of vegetables for the week before d we decided to go to Montreal on Friday, so we made a concerted effort to use them up. I did freeze some green peppers and spinach along with the turkey soup.
I watched and enjoyed these on the weekend.
The 50 Easiest 3-ingredient Recipes
Saturday lunch out - take out Peking duck with homemade dipping sauce and green onion pancakes. First time having the frozen pancakes. I wouldn't buy the half duck again, it was way too bony. Next time I would buy their prepared duck breast.
Sunday Thanksgiving turkey, stuffing, mashed n=and roasted potatoes, cauliflower, mushy peas
Dessert mini pumpkin cheesecakes with spicy coffee granita with salted whipped cream
Monday leftovers with fresh cauliflower
Tuesday turkey stew
Wednesday turkey stew fresh cauliflower
Thursday leftovers
Friday Montreal pasta
