Breakfast Club

Linking up with Marg at The Intrepid Reader

October 2023 - Toronto ON

September 2023 - Orillia ON

Saturday and it is a long weekend - Thanksgiving.
We bagged up our donation for the Food Bank being run by the building.

Sunday I had my customary two hour phone chat with my 80 something friend who is now in a retirement home. It is always amusing to hear what is going on.
I finally put the backing on my embroidery and hung it, bottom right.

I started a new one.

John and I had an interesting Wordle, what are the odds that we would both choose the same word in the second row?

Monday, a holiday, we slept late and lounged around until we got to work tidying up after yesterday's cooking.
Turkey soup is simmering!
I love true stories about con artists and read The Man in the Rockefeller Suit in Vanity Fair.

Tuesday and Elizabeth finally received my second postcard from Yukon. We emptied the plant pots on the balcony and did a few more chores. Then we settled in with popcorn and movies.

Wednesday John golfed and I went for a haircut. I stopped into Brookfield Place to look at the
World Press Photo Exhibition 2023.
These two caught my eye.

Royal York Hotel.

On the golf course.

And a family save the date.

Thursday and the fire alarm goes off. It turns out to be on the 17th floor and a construction worker set it off by accident.
John went for a golf club fitting and left with new clubs!

Friday John golfed and I had planned to go to Harbourfront to find a new sculpture.

I cut through one of the office towers and came across this.

The area contains fast food options and a grocery store.

Back out on the street.

Under the Gardiner at Lower Simcoe.

This former parking garage will become a 60 storey condo.

Art on the way.

There were many of these odd signs in the Music Garden. Click on "music garden" in the tags/labels below this post.

A Canadian humanitarian, activist, and athlete, Terry Fox has finally been honoured in Downtown Toronto in a long-awaited public art installation beside the Toronto Music Garden at 439 Queens Quay West. The project titled “We Are Shaped by the Obstacles We Face” consists of sculpted stone slabs forming a perspective silhouette of Terry Fox during his Marathon of Hope in 1980.

The artwork displays three granite slabs, forming the foundations of the iconic Terry Fox Marathon of Hope perspective silhouette through its paved pathway. Along with the surrounding green space, the design aims to inspire the challenges we face by pushing beyond and achieving a positive outlook on prevailing through determination. At the end of the pathway, you are greeted with a bronze statue of a young Terry.

COOKING
Saturday wieners and beans - I never make this for dinner, but we had extra hot dogs and I wanted to spend some time prepping Sunday's dinner!

Sunday Thanksgiving dinner - we didn't take any photos!!
Turkey, stuffing, gravy, mashed turnips and carrots, Brussel sprouts, mashed and roasted potatoes. Pumpkin GF cheesecake.

Monday leftovers! I did take a photo of the cheesecake.

Tuesday leftover turkey (the end), mashed cauliflower and potatoes and turnips and carrots

Wednesday chili. I made a cheese soda bread, but I used the gluten free
Cup 4 Cup flour instead of Robin Hood. What a difference, it really rose and was lighter and fluffy.

Thursday chicken a la orange.

Friday steak frites with chimichurri

WATCHING
Fair Play is a 2023 American thriller film that follows a young couple whose relationship starts to unravel following an unexpected promotion at a cutthroat male-oriented hedge fund firm. This was a good thriller that led to interesting conversations.

Reptile is a 2023 American thriller film starring Benicio del Toro.

Maggie Moore(s) is a 2023 American black comedy film. It stars Jon Hamm, Nick Mohammed and Tina Fey. It was silly and fun, a different kind of movie for us.
Jay Moore, the slovenly manager of a sandwich store in Buckland, NM, has gotten involved in some shady stuff. When his wife finds out and threatens to go to the cops, he hires a hit man to scare her but who decides to kill her. Police chief Jordan Sanders naturally suspects him for his wife's murder. To divert suspicion, he rehires the hit man to kill another woman with the same name, hoping the cops will think his wife's murder was a case of mistaken identity. And then things really start to spiral out of control.

The Surrogacy is a Mexican 2023 drama series. Not bad, a bit soap opera for us.
"A woman rents her womb to a powerful family of Mexican business people to save her father's life. After her delivery, she wakes up in a hospital where she is given a baby who was born with a physical disability. Years later, her life will confront her again with that moment to discover the truth."—Official Netflix synopsis

READING

I didn't do a lot of reading this week, not sure why. I finished the Creak on the Stairs and also finished The Housekeeper. I'm not sure what to say about it, Claire is not likeable, the plot is ridiculous and the ending all tied up with a bow.

I started To Tell You the Truth and like it so far.
