Weekend Cooking - Hawi Hawaii

Weekend Cooking hosted by www.BethFishReads.com

Beth hosts Weekend Cooking where you can post anything food related.

November 2011 - Hawi Hawaii

We always go to Hawi on the Big Island just for the dumplings at Bamboo!
Hop over here for the recipe!

Hawi, North Kohala’s biggest little town, is best known as the bicycle turnaround for the annual Ironman World Championship held every October. This historic town, set in the green northern tip of the island, was once the busy hub of North Kohala’s now defunct sugar industry.

Today, Hawi is home to a handful of charming art galleries, boutiques and restaurants set in colourful and lively plantation buildings. You’ll find everything here from handmade jewelry and crafts to homemade fudge and 100% Kona coffee. The Bamboo Restaurant & Gallery was once voted best restaurant on Hawaii Island and is a great stop for a fresh island style meal.

CHICKEN SATE POT STICKERS

The Bamboo specialty! Thai seasoned chicken, herbs, and peanuts, hand-wrapped by Aunty Mary in won ton pi, steamed, and served with our famous, spicy, sweet chili mint sauce.

GRILLED FRESH FISH SANDWICH

A fresh fish selection each day, herb basted, grilled to perfection and served on foccacia.

KALUA PORK and CABBAGE

There's no Hawaiian party without it - Luau style pork, smoked in our own imu accompanied by fresh cabbage and "two scoop" rice.

My Recipe Box - Chicken Sate Dumplings

love Chinese dumplings! Here is my go-to recipe.  It also includes a gluten free wrapper recipe.

And here are some photos of dumplings we had in China.

When we are in Hawaii, on the Big Island we always make sure we go to The Bamboo restaurant in Hawi just for their potstickers (well also everything else on their menu)!!
I even bought their cookbook.

Ground pork would be great also.
