August 2023 - Whitehorse Yukon

Toronto

Weekend was the weekend...we did  groceries (note to self DO NOT go on Saturday afternoon when there is a ball game!), relaxed, and started packing as we are busy before we leave. Booked a limo. Did condo away notification.
Instead of taking our big cameras, we bought a small cheap camera and will have our phones.

Monday John golfed at Cross Winds, an early start.

John's son and grandson came to Toronto for a couple of days. They came Monday night for dinner.

Tuesday rain was in the forecast but we lucked out. We met GS at the hotel and Ubered to lunch at Popeyes, his choice as they don't have any in Quebec. Then to the Museum of Illusions and had a ball.

Then to the Museum of Illusions. Click here for our initial visit a few years ago with friends.

Tonight the three generations are going to the Rogers Centre for a ball game.

Great seats!

John walked back to the hotel with them and stayed for a drink before ubering home.

Wednesday John picked GS up at BMO (above) building (FCP)  and headed to ScotiaBank Arena.

Then walked over to the aquarium where they had timed tickets. John didn't take any fish photos, but GS did. Here's some photos from a previous visit.
They had a quick lunch at Union Station and then GS wanted to re-visit City Hall.

I stayed home to tidy up and finish up laundry and packing. I also did our online check in for flight.

Thursday limo picked us up at 6AM. What a horrible driver!

Pearson Airport was a zoo at 6:30 AM, no organization or signs. We found the priority check-ins and lines (with no help) and avoided the mile long, bag drop and security lines. We never did find the AC Priority lounge but grabbed Starbucks and boarded.
Tucked into our pods.

Vancouver Airport lounge.

Aboard our flight to Whitehorse, we could have had a meal, but we had eaten in the lounge.

WHITEHORSE

We arrived in Whitehorse and were greeted by the tour company sign, Shongu was our driver and gave us a tour of the highlights.

The Sternwheeler Hotel and Conference Centre

We checked in for four nights, took a nap. The rain stopped so we took a walk to the Thursday Firewood Market.

Then had dinner in the hotel at Tony's. It was very good, large portions, decent (Toronto prices).

Friday breakfast is not provided, you can have breakfast, for a fee in their dining room. We opted to walk to Burnt Toast Cafe and had an English breakfast.

We took a walk to Main St. and then spent the rest of the day visiting some sights and the McBride Museum.

Sadly, this place is now closed, I was really looking forward to it!

Inside the Best Western Hotel.

We decided to buy tickets for a ten hour excursion tomorrow into Alaska. More to come.

We really enjoyed the Mc Bride Museum. More to come.

Time to relax at Dirty Northern. Gorgeous day.

We took a quick run to Shoppers for some water and protein bars for the next few days in case we are stuck.

Back to the hotel for a quick rest before heading to dinner.

WATCHING

Nothing much, we've been busy with guests and travelling but continued the last season of Manifest.

READING

I read another Lisa Hall book, Have You Seen Her. A good read with unlikeable characters but a realistic storyline.

I downloaded a bunch of books for the next week, although I'm not sure how much reading I will get done.

Reading and really enjoying The Good House, this book is wickedly funny yet sad.

  1. I like to be fully stocked with ebooks for a trip. I usually don't read many when I'm gone, but I like to have them just in case.

What a great time you had at the Museum of Illusions! Such an interesting place.

And now you are off on your trip. Can't wait to hear more!

What an interesting way to fly! I've never seen that on any plane I've been on, but then my last flight was almost 7 years ago so I'm sure planes have changed by now. lol

So now WHERE are you? Whitehorse you say? Where the heck is that? Ok I've Google mapped it. Wow! You're way over there and way up THERE! Can't wait to see more!
