Wired Monk

October 2022 - Halifax NS

Saturday started unseasonably warm at 9C/48F but major winds blew in with a cold front and Sunday was -1C/30F at 10 AM. But not a flake of snow anywhere.

Saturday morning - strange sky

We had our usual weekend routine, relaxing etc.

John finally saw a sports doctor who confirmed that there is some inflammation in the hip area (not really hip but it works) and some fusion. He will see a chiropractor next week and a shot at the end of the month.
It was a lazy week. I started working (finally) on our Newfoundland video.

I did some Christmas shopping for me!

Now we have matching!

Ours had rusted.

It's not Christmas without these!

Replacing another worn pan.

More lobby decorations, John didn't like them, I like them.

Thursday we had our annual Christmas lunch with friends. We went to Spencer's in Burlington.
Photo from their website.
It was not sunny and the pool was drained.

This was a lovely spot (even in winter) with great food and service. It was a 1:30 reservation so it became lunch and dinner as we didn't leave until 4 PM.
We started with a dirty martini with Belvedere for John and a sauvignon blanc for me, then a burger for John and a lobster roll for me, both with fries. Definitely going back!!!! Prices were reasonable too!

Absolutely delicious lobster roll!

John loved his gluten free bun, and burger/

COOKING

Saturday Chinese curry chicken and onion bhajis. I finally wrote up my curry recipe.

Sunday ham, cauliflower potato au gratin with braised cabbage

Monday leftovers

Tuesday I made avocado key lime pie, a no bake, using up the avocados and GF graham crackers we had.

I made cheese biscuits and Spanish chicken thighs with chorizo over mashed potatoes.

Wednesday leftovers.

Thursday lupper - see above

Friday steak (delicious) baked potato with cheese and scallions.

Note to self - use chia seeds to replace an egg. Use up the aquafaba in freezer for egg whites.
Make tourtieres

WATCHING

I watched the fourth season (2022) which was released as a separate series titled Borgen - Riget, Magten, og Æren (known internationally as Borgen - Power & Glory), a Danish political drama television series. In Danish, Borgen, lit. 'The Castle', is the informal name of Christiansborg Palace where all three branches of Danish government reside: the Parliament, the Prime Minister's Office, and the Supreme Court, and is often used as a stand in term for the Danish Parliament.
The main character is a woman and I like how it focuses on the additional problems women have to deal with such as periods, pregnancy, abortion, kids, menopause while doing a full time job.
I enjoyed it so much that I went back and started season 1, set in 2010, it has the same actors as 2022. So interesting to see them that young.

A Man of Action (Spanish: Un hombre de acción) is a 2022 crime drama film. It is freely based on the life of Lucio Urtubia.
Taking place from the 1940s to the 1980s and primarily set in France, the plot is freely inspired by the life of Paris-based Spanish anarchist, bricklayer, and bank robber Lucio Urtubia, known for forging a large-scale scam aimed at the City Bank.

Ava  is a 2020 American action thriller film. The film stars Jessica Chastain, John Malkovich, Common, Geena Davis, Colin Farrell, Ioan Gruffudd and Joan Chen.
Ava is a deadly assassin who works for a black ops organization, traveling the globe specializing in high profile hits. When a job goes dangerously wrong she is forced to fight for her own survival.

The Protégé  is a 2021 American action thriller film about Anna, who was rescued as a child by the legendary assassin Moody, and is now the world's most skilled contract killer. However, when Moody is brutally killed, she vows revenge for the man who taught her everything she knows.

Elevator DON'T WATCH DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME

The Last Rampage  is a 2017 American crime drama film based on the non-fiction book Last Rampage: The Escape of Gary Tison and details the true story of Tison's 1978 prison escape and subsequent murders. Disturbing and entertaining.

1922 is a 2017 American horror drama film based on Stephen King's 2010 novella of the same name. Creepy.

Clinical - A psychiatrist tries to put her life back together after a violent attack by seeking to repair the life of a new patient, but he has his own terrifying history.

I started The Woman Upstairs last week, I tried, I really tried but had to give up half way through.

However, Safe With Me had me glued to my chair. Are the inmates running the asylum?

  4. Borgen was fun to watch when we got back from Greenland because we had been in the exact locations where it was filmed. I only watched the season with Greenland, not the ones set entirely in Denmark.

Sounds as if you had a good week.
