August 2014 - Washington DC

Since the bus didn't seem to adhere to any particular schedule we made sure to limit our time inside which was a shame as we ended up wasting more time waiting for the return bus that could have been spent enjoying more of the cathedral.

The Cathedral Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul in the City and Diocese of Washington, operated under the more familiar name of Washington National Cathedral, is a cathedral of the Episcopal Church.

It is the sixth-largest cathedral in the world, the second-largest in the United States, and the highest as well as the fourth-tallest structure in Washington, D.C.

Construction began on September 29, 1907, when the foundation stone was laid in the presence of President Theodore Roosevelt and a crowd of more than 20,000, and ended 83 years later when the "final finial" was placed in the presence of President George H. W. Bush in 1990.

The Space Window Stained Glass is located on the south side of the Cathedral. It has a much darker hue than most of the stained glass in the cathedral, as it is constructed from a lunar rock along with glass of very deep shades of blue, red and green.

Not a great shot of the Darth Vadar grotesque.

Some of the gargoyles.
